Two failed IUIs. Finally started IVF and put on medication, then COVID happened. Now on yet another burner case and am very stressed, and have no idea how to fit IVF into this job. Should I leave?

That sucks. Fertility treatment is stressful enough, and a covid cancellation of cycle plus burner case is really hard.

Talk to your doctor about the schedule. How far ahead would you need to plan a cycle to book first appointment of the day? Aim for that.

Talk to a woman leader in your office or practice or team and get some honest advice about options for leave time, using vacation, or low stress staffing. Talk to your staffing manager if you can, too. You may need someone to help you get on a lighter stress project next.

When I went through fertility stuff I ended up telling my male leadership, “i have a series of gynecology appointments at 8am several days over then next week and need to start work at 9. Do you have any questions about the appointments? How can we make this work?” They were terrified of the word “gynecology” and had zero questions and told me to adjust my work as needed. I figured this scary-to-men word was accurate enough. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

The upside of doing IVF now is that we’re not traveling so it’s easier to plan for the monitoring.

Please DM me! I did 3 rounds while at BCG as a PL and Principal. It can be done. Don’t leave, our fertility benefits are hard to match elsewhere...

Whats the change been? I'm curious

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure the COVID interruption was really hard.

When I did IVF, I told my case leadership (two cases, both male PLs). BOTH of them had done IVF previously, and both of them had requested and received flexibility and support from their cases when they did. Needless to say, they told me that they would support any flexibility I needed, and also made it known that I could come to them for support.

Make people aware of this. It's common at BCG and will really help you through the process

Additional Posts in Fertility Bowl

Hi everyone, first fishbowl post here :) I’m currently 4W4D pregnant! I’m excited but also very anxious. I had a miscarriage first time I got pregnant last June and a chemical pregnancy in Jan. I REALLY want this to work and need to obviously keep my stress and anxiety in check. I read everything there is to read on what to do/not do/eat/not eat… My previous experiences have removed any kind of “innocent excitement” I had. Does it ever come back?

Quick question, I’m starting timed intercourse with medication. I received my ovidrel injextion 4 months ago. It’s been in the fridge. I’m anticipating a potential trigger today or tomorrow (measured today with one 17mm and one 18mm) waiting to hear back on my hormone levels. I assume the fridge was a good call as that’s what the pharmacy reccomended. Should I take it out now? Leave it in till last minute? Thoughts comments?

They also said I have another 5+ in each ovary that are smaller than 11mm. The phone call with the doctor was pretty grim (he basically said we might need to cancel the cycle as 4 follicles is too few for elective freezing). Can the smaller ones maybe catch up? Hi. I have very low AMH, 36 years old & never have been pregnant. I have done 2 IVF cycles this year approx 5 months apart. Each time had only 2 eggs retrieved, 1 fertilization each which lead to the embryo reaching blastocyst stages both times & both came back normal after genetic testing 🤍 talk about beating the statistics odds! 🤞🏻 I now have 2 cutie embryos saved. My husband & I would love to have twins and will be speaking to my doctor about the best options. Twins thoughts?

My wife is a Fragile X carrier, so with this and trouble conceiving we are doing IVF and doing genetic testing on the embryos. There were 2 options Natera and Cooper. We went with Natera - and they take so long!! It sounds like it will be months before they send sample collection kits to us and close family members, then use those samples to develop a customized embryo test. Natera is fine with us beginning hormone stimulation in parallel, but our RE won’t allow it (no clear explanation why).
