Haven’t heard a single good thing about TikTok and the 190 may not stretch as far in HCOL…seems like loss/loss
VP of strategy at Expedia is a great dude. People matter.
Are you more passionate about helping people travel the world or about helping sexualize pre-teen girls?

WLB is everything right now
For people saying 190k won’t get you a lot in LA, they obviously don’t live in LA. That’s definitely enough as a single person to afford you a good life here. That being said, TikTok has HORRIBLE WLB and culture issues (heard from friends on the China AND US side) and as someone posted earlier this week, could face major government intervention in the future. Go with Expedia, that’s a decent enough salary too.

Again, we don’t know OP’s situation (we don’t even know what firm they’re at) so we can’t say. To your point, it’s all subjective. I’m just saying from my experience in LA 🤷♀️.
I've heard from two different people that TikTok wlb is awful. Not quite 996 in the US, but still 12 hour days for 5 days and a few hours in the weekend.
With that, I'd take Expedia
TikTok is aids anyway. Talk about working for a company that provides zero actual utility to the world.
Expedia strategy. With travel likely to stay high for considerable time, Expedia is a better option.
Just like that I’d take Expedia. If Expedia lets you work remotely or in a cheaper city than LA these 160K will last longer than these TikTok’s 190K. Sacrifice WLB is never worth it and no one will get all your extra time worked back in your life.

TikTok is actively making the world dumber and it’s under the control of the CCP. Expedia wins by default.
So TikTok has better WLB and is offering to pay more, which implies it’s the better offer. What is pushing you towards Expedia?
No TikTok has the worse WLB, hearing I’ll be working more than a 9-5 from the hiring manager and taking some late night calls with China. But seems like a better growth move.
I'd take Expedia. Tiktok brand isn't obviously better, and you'll probably be working 40% more for 20% more money.
I had a colleague who was doing a consulting gig with TikTok and they fired him via text message. Lol take that as you will.
What industry do you want to go deep in?

What’s your YOE and what level/title are you getting at these firms? I’m at 3YOE and have a bunch of recruiter outreach for senior associate positions at tech firms that pay $120 base and $150TC. Haven’t encountered anything better

BCG3 - no Im experienced hire A but previous experience in in-house strategy and 3YOE regardless. Bigger firms that reach out typically have low salaries, otherwise they’d have filled their position long ago with no need to reach out for candidates. Certain smaller firms seem to be offering better comp but it’s the minority not common either
Yo tell us your ways... new to consulting but trying to get these big boy exits
Expedia depends on disposable income right? Thinking it's more vulnerable if things get worse.
I worked for priceline and it was without a doubt the best WLB experience I’ve ever had with an employer . However, after you understand the business model, you see patterns of redundancy. I currently work in ad tech now, and there is always something new and innovative in the industry. Depends on where you are at in your life. I would take Expedia if I had a family I want to see after work. If I’m young, single and like to be in an exciting industry, take the trendy company for sure
Personally I’d go with TikTok. Stick it out for 1-2 years and then you’d probably have your pick of roles at any other social media company and a lot of traditional media companies in LA
Just curious, what kind of consulting are you in?
Tiktok is a flashy bait
