Two “watches for consultants” from my personal collection. Aka watches for people who travel. These lesser known watches offer a ton of features, and come in under $500 each. Yes, they’re not Rolex/GS/Omega GMTs, and some will call the dials “too busy” and truthfully I won’t wear them as much as I used to now that I have automatic luxury pieces, but I think they’re great value and great wear if you’re worrying about coming off as too pretentious. You’re looking at a Citizen AT8020-03L and a Seiko SSG017. Both have daily atomic clock sync to a certain time zone (aka quick set time zone feature when you fly coast to coast) and both are solar powered, so they’re always running and always accurate. You know when you slap it on your wrist it’s good to go. The Citizen has sapphire while the Seiko has Hardlex, but I don’t have any scratches on it after what is now 6-8 years. The citizen also automatically adjusts itself for DST (the Seiko, you have to put yourself in the “wrong” timezone half the year). Both are super affordable and comfortable to wear all day. I’ve actually had a top level exec compliment me on the Citizen. It’s a nice watch to wear into the office without flaunting your wealth. Anyways, just sharing these two as they don’t get any attention, especially the Seiko (at least in the US), although if I had to pick only one I’d have the Citizen. Feel free to post some of your travel/watches for consultants below and enjoy your weekend. Ok ciao

I should also add, both these watches at something like between 6-10 years old, the citizen being ~2 years older, so you can see how well they’ve aged/worn. These were daily drivers for me too

Yes, I own a citizen eco drive sapphire - perpetual calendar since last 9 years. I didn’t wear it for last many months. I just put it in my balcony under the sun for a day..it set the time by itself in the night (radio controlled) and voila, ready to rock..I can definitely vouch for Japanese quality..

… Are those… QUARTZ?!?

*clutches pearls in horror*

Kidding of course, glad you enjoy them, I love my Citizen Skyhawk for travel purposes as well, wear them in good health!!

The citizen blue angel is certainly one of favorite watches during consulting. Time sync is just so awesome, and inexpensive enough that I don't have to worry about the ding.

Wish it wasn't that busy though - the dial color is so gorgeous.

I actually love my citizen. It’s one that I can completely ignore with zero upkeep and it keeps on ticking. Perpetual calendar is quite nice.

I thought you were selling them!!

What to do about older firm owner who sits in the office 5 days/wk 8 hours per day reading the Yahoo home page? I am his sole associate. He has hemmed and hawed about transitioning to retirement and executing a buyout agreement in a “couple of years” but it seems like he’s already retired and just hangs out here.

For reference, my book of business and clients generate 60-65% of receivables for the firm now, but most new clients come in based on his name recognition, and all are handed to me.

Reading Winners Take All and am halfway through the book. The only content that has been covered until now is how handing over responsibility of fixing society should not be given to the large corps. No solution on an alternative yet though he does allude to government being an option. I mostly agree with what he’s trying to say but without a solution, it sounds like repetitive complaining with evidence. I know a lot of folks here love the book, so curious to hear your thoughts.

So I understand Rolex throttles supply leading to empty ADs. What I don’t understand is the high number of mint, unworn, plastic still on SS Rolex’s across nearly all grey market dealers. Where are they getting them?! I thought ADs don’t allow/like flips, so are all these high rollers getting busted? I just don’t get it.
