Is it okay if I accept qualcomm offer for nw and reject it later if Nvidia hires me.

I had a final round interview, and the recruiter reached out later to ask for references and asked if I was close to getting offers at any other places. Are they asking as that will affect the offer they will give? Or are they just asking to see how quickly they need to move?
