Uber driver asked me to wear my seat belt in the backseat. When I responded with a nah I'm ok, she goes on to say - "I can't drive without you being strapped". Seriously wtf! Happened to anyone else?

@Deloitte, it may not be a law in the state but it's still a liability issue not to mention a bit of common sense. If something happened and you were involved in accident and were injured, your Uber driver would be at fault not you .. so just fasten your seatbelt it only takes a few seconds to put on and take off, is it really that much of a problem?

My take on this is that the Uber driver (based on his response) seems to genuinely care about the well being and safety of people but particularly of people in his care. Maybe he could have been more upfront about this and you might have been more receptive. Good for him for setting his expectations and I think the real thing is... it's his service and his car and his rules. If you don't want to play by them then cancel and get another driver. I think the notion that since we are paying for a service that the provider should deal on our terms is severely disconnected. Regardless of your place in the service provider and service giver relationship we can all have boundaries. Paying doesn't entitle you to anything.

OP - you're an idiot. I always wear my seatbelt. Do you not value your life?

If you are detached and the car gets into an accident the force of your moving body can injure/kill other passengers - it's not just a you safety issue

It is the law in New York and it looks like the can fine the driver and pull you over for not wearing one. Don't be a dick and put your seatbelt on. https://dmv.ny.gov/brochure/new-york-states-occupant-restraint-law

If only Deloitte put as much effort in their deliverables as you did in defending being a dick to an Uber driver and rebelling against something you learn when you're 5 years old. 💁🏽

You're a clown and an embarassment to our firm.

How dare that peon of a person tell a Deloitte consultant what to do? You had to be mortified.

I was in an Uber that got rear-ended on the freeway, and I wasn't wearing a seat belt. Yeah, I put it on every time now.

Yes, yes you are.

OP you're a dumbass. The force involved in a collision at 35mph without wearing a seatbelt can kill you. Hell, that's true at 20 mph too. And yes, in NY, and in many states, drivers can get tickets for passengers not wearing a seatbelt.

Feels like a switch was flipped a week ago and I’m considering dumping my boyfriend of 3 years (in late 20s now). Not sure if it’s shelter-in-place related (I miss being truly alone and freedom. I think I might wait till things ease up and I can have some normalcy back before making any rash decisions. Anyone else struggling with big life choices?
