As a former expat, I found amex credit cards to not be worth it while overseas. Yes the rewards are better but it was not always possible to get my money's worth on the perks while outside the US (uber and doordash credits not usable, spent time in countries without amex lounges, many businesses not accepting amex). Perhaps chase will be more versatile?

Thanks, really appreciate the perspective!

I’m an American and I get way more use out of the CSR than Amex Plat (we have both, canceling the Amex this year), especially if you travel or dine out frequently.

Yeah for us, the $300 credit for travel/dining plus all of the other perks more than pays for the card. And you can actually still get Global Entry even as a non-US citizen, so that cost would be covered, too!

Have you considered getting a UK or IDC card instead? AMEX makes it easy with Global Transfer, which doesn’t require you to have any credit history in the new country.

I’m just nervous in the entire process as this is my first year doing this. TIA!!
