Unable to decide to leave my current company. They are actively blocking my growth and I got an offer for a title promotion, but a significant pay cut. The new job offers $100k, 26 days pto, hybrid 2/3 remote, 37.5 hours a week. My current job (7yrs) offers $102k, 42 days pto, office optional 35 hrs a week. With the new job being in CT, the increase in taxes, 3x increase in insurance premium, and travel to and from, I am looking at $700 a month pay cut. Is career advancement worth $700 a month?

What kind of company gives you a pay cut with a promotion? Find a better paying gig that will respect you.

Cool. Ask them to extend the deadline for reply and in the meantime talk to other companies. Good luck mate!

If you're set on the idea of leaving your job for another, I wouldn't take the CT job especially since you have no guarantee of promotion or cost of living increases. I would keep looking.

like

Thanks! I am still looking! Could not justify the pay cut, so I’ll keep looking for now.

Oooh that is kind of tough. Honestly the job you are currently at sounds better. But if they are blocking your growth, I would take the pay cut and go.

like

I had to decline the offer, the pay cut was too much to justify.

I literally just now sent an email rejecting an offer. The offer was a 5k yearly salary cut and the health insurance was insanely expensive, which would mean and even higher salary reduction. I know money is not everything when it comes to career growth but in today's economy this is a huge factor and some of us really cannot afford any form of pay reduction. Only you know your worth, your priorities and financial situation. Do what is best for you. If you cannot afford a $700 monthly pay reduction, move one and keep looking, you'll find your perfect job. Good luck!

like

Yep! So many factors and calculations went into my decision to reject the offer. It sucks but I have more interviews lined up.

Leave the company. You do not get a promotion and then a pay cut. Maybe before doing that, ask your boss the reason this happened and let them know how you feel.

These are two different organizations. Sorry that wasn’t more clear. My current job has zero growth opportunities and I was looking to leave and debating the new offer. I decided against it.

Are there any firms that market a slightly different lifestyle than maybe the V10 for M&A lawyers (or more broadly)? Looking for AI/ML jobs in Dallas or remote. 2.5 years of experience, 2 major research papers (NLP & Reinforcement Learning) and MS in Data Science. Currently working at Walmart (Sam's Club) but salary is way below market standards and growth is incredibly slow. I feel I can contribute much more in NLP, Deep Learning & advanced applications. Will require H1B sponsorship (2 attempts left).

Which pays better and has better career highlights, FAANG or BIG4 or MBB or big Inv. Banks. I agree it depends on person to person, but it adds value to resume, get LOR from Dr, VP or PI-AP.

Your thoughts.
I know even techies or mba people have worked and moved from these org and they have their reasons to take a big role in big4 or smaller role in tech just because of the pay and wlb. For eg PM profile and onsite opportunities associated with tech co.

Currently in ID making $130k. Got an offer from a PI firm to make $90k base plus 5-10% of my collections. I was told by a current associate that I likely won’t make $130k my first year bc of the learning curve but possibly the second year. I’m fine at my current firm but have some concerns about a long term future there. I like plaintiffs work more and think I’d ultimately make more in the one run. What would you do?

Currently two offers in hand brillio and citiustech
The role i get at citiustech is perfectly matching for my career path and at brillio i am not completely sure about project details
Citiustech is giving me 1Lakh more than brillio
But the issue is citiustech is having a retention pay concept which sounds like 2 year bond which seems not good
Here can I negotiate with Brillio for better offer again and role? Only few days left in my np now

So I work for a multimillion dollar company
Here’s my dilemma. I started as a temp in the traffic department as a scheduler in April of 2021. I was making 44K a year with ZERO benefits.
I applied for a different position in logistics and got the job! BUT is came with a HUGE pay cut. I went from making 44K a year to 32K. I work my butt off and feel like I should be making more for my responsibilities. I’ve only been here a year but I do more than I should.
Is it too soon to renegotiate my pay?
