Just get the United Club card. That is if you’re going to pay for United lounge access.
Depends on which hub. I recently got the card myself and fly out of Newark a lot, which I think is worth it bc there are no other lounge offerings there. Plus new ewr lounge is nice and that card has a good sign up bonus offer going on.
Probably depends where you fly, but I frequent airports with Amex lounges or I fly Delta so I’d say go platinum if your company doesn’t already provide it.
If you fly weekly, and your alternative is to go to the airport bar, I say yes. One beer ($10) per week pays for the membership.
I have Centurion via Amex Plat and UA Club via Chase’s UA club card. As a background, ive been a UA 1K for a bit and my home airport is SFO.
My thoughts:
United pros relative to Centurion:
- available in nearly all major airports for United
- phenomenal in my home airport — notably exceptional at EWR
- not overwhelmingly packed and I’ve never been turned away (whereas I’ve been put on a waitlist at Centurion half the times ive gone)
- much much better hours (eg, SFO closes at 11pm, centurion closes at 7)
- 2 free guests! None of this nonsense AMEX is starting where you have to spend $75k to get the free guests at Centurion.
- theoretically, you can earn PQP with the UA club card. But not a meaningful amount.
Cons:
- limited food/bev options (limited to house wine, a few beers, and well liquor and some below average microwaveable food)
- the UA club card is useless compared to AMEX plat and I’ve spent $0 on it since i got it; at least the AMEX plat has the MR program which is solid.
If you’re willing to pay for 2 premium cards AND you almost exclusively fly UA out of a UA airport, I’d say CSR + UA Club is a no brainer. AmEx is a better play if you fly Delta a fair amount or don’t want two premium cards. I personally plan on canceling my AmEx at renewal.
You still don’t have club access unless you’re flying international or transcon.
