I remember the PwC recruiter telling me that I would have 18 PTO days as a senior. I told him I currently have 27 and he said, but you get unlimited sick days at PwC. I laughed at him
Not everyone here is passionate about the competitive landscape in consulting, some of us just want to solve neat problems and make a living. Stop being such a hardo, it’s weird. We’re all just people
This was an experiment a few years ago with a lot of progressive companies, but they've pretty much all moved away from it for just that reason - people who took less tended to judge people who took more negatively. Better for company morale and employee happiness to have a specified amount
How do you all not know the major players and movement in your own industry? S& is still a fresh acquisition and shame on you for not knowing which firms are your own competitors.
It’s shown that (overall) most people don’t take that much whereas if you have a set amount of time you feel inclined to take all those days. Of course I’m sure there are outliers but also had to take massive amounts of pto as it will impact your utilization rate. PwC/Guidehouse have unlimited sick time.
OP Do you not know what Strategy& is...?
Unlimited PTO is a major savings to employers because they no longer have to pay out unused vacation when someone leaves. So yeah, it's a trap
West Monroe has unlimited PTO. This is our first year with it for everyone, previously was Directors only. I used to get 160 hours of PTO. By year end I will probably have taken 200 hours. I do think some aren't getting value, especially workaholics and campus hires. The younglings need to be nurtured by managers to ensure they are still getting the time off the deserve, but in general I think you just need to be a bit more proactive in taking it.
You get 18 days PTO, but the firms shuts down between Christmas and New Years, and we also shut down for the entire week of the 4th of July this past year, so counting that its closer to 5 weeks
Strategy&1 - Is that your firm’s name?
Not everyone follows FB so closely....
It's not a FB thing, it was a major acquisition a few years ago. Similar to not knowing about Arthur Andersen
I worked for a company that was unlimited sick - and they found people used it much less frequently than if they stated a fixed number every year. My husbands company is NTO - needs time off - and it’s all around the ‘get your job’ done mentality. You CAN use more than 3-4 weeks if you plan it effectively in his world (sales) but if you are in ours I find it much harder. I can’t even use the PTO I have now.
You end up using less and you don't get a payout when you quit
Gonna be at 5 weeks by the end of the year. My practice averages 3-4 weeks PTO every year so on par with other firms. I think biggest advantage is just not having to keep track / worry about using them up too quickly.
Come over here, we shut down between Xmas and New Years and the 4th of July week now, but we are required to use up vacation days in tandem with vacay days
Oh ok, your a “subsidiary” of PwC, guess I should know all of the names of each firms smaller entities
I know someone who worked at a startup with unlimited PTO and he took maybe 3-4months total time off and still got promoted end of the year
Another perspective on unlimited - when there is downtime I feel less concerned to think of what I could be doing vs just saying I'll take a day of pto today.
