This is why I don’t take calls on vacation/weekends, I am out when I say I’m out. And yes, my reviews are good, not great. But I’m ok, I’ve set my boundaries and if that gets me fired then so be it. I’m a Senior Manager btw.
We need more people/leaders like you!

I’ve had a manager call me high as a kite the day after surgery on a weekend. It’s gross. Take your time, we’re all human beings too and understand.

I sent a text to my director once after surgery to let him know I was ok and at home recuperating. Thought it was the polite thing to do and all. He asked how I was and I replied that I was tired and in a lot of pain and on medication. He then proceeded to text me a whole long story about something work related. 🤦🏼♀️ Dude, what part of “I just got out of surgery, am tired, in a lot of pain, and on medication” made you think that I wanted to hear your work nonsense? 🙄
3rd time in 3 days I saw this!
Multiple non-accounting friends and family members sent me this tweet as I worked all weekend 😭
I literally dealt with this with one of EYs French audit partners when I worked there. We were about to file and needed to reach out and they were like yeah he’s gone for the next month

RSM we call it self-managed PTO. For seniors and above you get unlimited PTO and you book them at your own professional discretion. We filed 4/29 and I didn’t log on on 4/30. If I need to take days off I just put it on Retain (our scheduling platform) and it gets approved by scheduling; no forms, no calls, no questions- again it’s all up to your professional discretion (put a week off this month and another week off in June then another July. I’m not the type that feel bad about taking days off as you can see). I’m new btw- lateral hire in November. Also, we’re hiring 🤣.
This is not funny it is very sad for Americans. Americans seriously need a training in taking a vacation. While working at EY I had Associate tell me that they need more vacation. I was puzzled at first, than he explained that he doesn’t know what to do with vacation time. Than I concluded that I am looking at not very intelligent person. Me on the other hand complain constantly how crappie are vacation and sick leave policies in this country and than after they tell me how Big 4 or any other company in this country offers benefits. These are all great benefits for slaves.
Nowhere in your rambling incoherent response did you come close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. I award you no points and May God have mercy on your soul.
I’ve worked during quite serious illness (and post surgery) before; because when it’s something I can help resolve, I feel a responsibility to help my team and my clients. I guess the point is, it should be a choice.
When I was in Europe, our signing partner went skiing on the day of the filing 😊 but seriously though, people that I know, especially on my team, really unplug during vacations. I definitely do it and I make a point of not contacting other people while they’re on PTO. I have seen people who work like crazy and never take vacation, but those are on a higher level and, I’m sorry to say, that’s 100% their fault
Seriously, I was on my bed after the surgery few years ago and my director called me on my cell asking about something they could not figure out. Mind you I had to fly across the country to have the surgery with no relative to take care of me. I had to hire a nurse staying with me the first night in the hotel.
Sorry you deserve this if you answered the phone. You need to grow a spine and set boundaries or people will trample all over you

Hahaha! That'd be the day. The PTO form that we fill out has a field to enter the phone number where you can be reached while you're out.
And just leave it blank. If we give in to it we will never change. Unfortunately the onus is on us, the employees, to set our boundaries and uphold them.
