Let’s see how the gender ratio is in this bowl!
“Tone policing is defined as "a conversational tactic that dismisses the ideas being communicated when they are perceived to be delivered in an angry, frustrated, sad, fearful, or otherwise emotionally charged manner." Managers striving to create a workplace based on equity and inclusion must understand how tone policing silences members of marginalized groups and allows discrimination to persist.” https://www-businessinsider-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.businessinsider.com/how-to-identify-and-help-stop-tone-policing-in-workplace-2020-8?amp

I disagree. We should celebrate diversity. People have died for this casual acceptance and allowance of celebration. Maybe you feel comfortable, but others don't and these actions are as much for them as you.
It can rub some people the wrong way, but not everything is about you or me in this world. I have many gay colleagues who were stoked about all the pride celebration this year by their firms. Sure, it's a bit corporate, but people make up the corporation. Do you think the "corporation" made up their minds to do all this pride stuff on their own? No one told anyone they had to go March at Chicago Pride with a firm banner, it was the various groups and people who made up the firms who did it.
We, as a society, have to label things in order to understand and accept them. It’s ridiculous. I am not defined by who I sleep with, what gender I am or my race. I am made up of all of those things but just one of them doesn’t define me. If I need a label, call me human. By constantly defining ourselves by our differences, we are calling them out like they should separate us. We are highlighting the things that differentiate us as if they are something that others are allowed to judge and decide whether or not they “accept” them. My gender, race, sexual orientation etc should never be offered for others to debate on its validity or value. I cannot stand the use of the word “tolerate” in all this either. I mean seriously, would you ever walk up to another human being and say “it’s all good, I tolerate you”? we aren’t called to tolerate each other. we are called love each other and treat each other with respect. we have no right to decide if someone deserves to be “tolerated”. It makes it sound like who they are is something we have an individual right to judge. Respect each other because everyone is different. Everyone is unique. That’s the whole point. People aren’t a blemish that you have to deal with until they go away. They are human beings End of rant.
yes, I agree. I wasn’t suggesting people be in the closet. my intention is more to say that it’s ridiculous to think anyone has the right to judge anyone else. the overall attitude of how we treat each other in general has to change. it’s stupid to say someone can’t discuss their personal life if it doesn’t conform to the norm. but it’s just as stupid to say that we should be forced to discuss their personal lives as if we have the right to decide if the way they live is appropriate
By over glorifying these sort of stuff, you dilute the importance of it.
These things were not supposed to be a big deal in the first place. It was natural so act like it. Stop making it such a big deal that others have to feel special about it
Also, not to mention these corporations just do it for PR purposes, which really dilute the meaning of these things
We dont need this. Act more human
Edit: also, you don't need to shove this LGBT and women empowerment stuff into everybody's throat. Just like how we try to eliminate racism, but they will always exist, and that's OK, it's called being human, stop being so damn sensitive about it. Our ancestors use to hunt mammoth, and nowadays we cant even see one butthurt comment without being offended? This PC culture has made people into little bit**es
I had a recent comment in the pool. I am bi and I don’t like how aggressive companies are doing this sh*t. But I think it’s the process and I got it. It needs some time to normalize this thing. I appreciate the efforts ppl spoke up before so I can complain now that ppl are doing too much. I think what we hated prob is the hollowness in some of those acts. Companies/ ppl are not necessarily changing the mind. But just being more carefully of expressing their minds.
Lol just here for the comments
Lmao same
not an unpopular opinion, I think a lot of ppl agree but the minority is usually the loudest
Yep and they will hunt you down and force you to agree with them
Some of them don't seem to understand it's okay to have different opinions.
Thanks for sharing, especially as a member of LGBT.
I agree with others that your opinion is probably more popular that you think.
I agree. Corporations and media need to do this to justify the lack of diversity. This is the equivalent of "I have black friends, I am not racist".
I wish people stopped talking about equality and started focusing on creating equality. It'll never happen.
Thanks for people who suffered, who fought half decades ago, you ‘ve got a chance here today working in acceptive corporate environment bxtching about why it should not be a big deal, why it should be natural, what a unappreciative brat!
Also, even for PR purposes, remember it matters to those young kids/people living in conservative places, or where simply being LGBT is a crime. Those “PR” can reach to places or hearts where you, as an unappreciative brat who probably lives in a liberal city who grow up in a much equal world create by those before you, can’t imagine. Grow up and grow a heart gurl!
We have exalted and celebrated white, heterosexual males for the last 400 years so I am just fine with others finally having a chance to bask in the warm rays of acceptance and equality.
I’m so glad someone finally said this. Thank you.
Totes agree
As a straight Caucasian male, I feel that I have to walk on egg shells, for some reason I’m held to a higher standard because a white male owned slaves 100 years ago.....yet everyone else has safe spaces, holidays and support groups.
Is it true that every country in the world had slavery and there is still slavery in Africa today?
sometimes it has become more of a culture war rather than actually supporting and normalizing lgbt & women
I agree. It’s really gotten out of hand. Why is this happening????
Pwc OP - you nailed it!
thank you for your post. Inundating people with LGBT related headlines seems disingenuous from companies.
