Unpopular Opinion (though hope not): if you have monk straps in your closet you deserve an auto-ban from this bowl.

Uhhhh nope.

There are some bad ones out there, and some people abuse them, but plenty of ways to wear the right pair fashionably.

I disagree with you. Plenty of ways to look great with monk straps.

I honestly don’t get why people hate on monk straps

like

100% agree OP. Monk straps are ugly and try-hard at the same time somehow

like

Have you ever been to Milan or Naples? Monk straps are quite common there. I’d argue the average Italian man is about ten times as stylish as the average American. People put a lot more thought into what they wear.

like

Single monk is a no for me, but the double-monk is nice

like

Single monks are awesome. I’ve got Santoni and Bally single monks. Some of my oldest and most worn shoes.

Op has obviously never seen a pair of Magnanni double monk straps

Hard disagree but unpopular so thumbs up. Monk straps are incredibly versatile. Looks nice with dress pants and jeans.

like

They can be done well (see comment above on their popularity in Italy).

Unfortunately here they’ve become part of the office uniform for back office bank workers in Jersey City. And they are almost never done well.

like

How can anyone look at these Magnanni's and see anything but art?

I think you meant tassel loafers

like

Nah i prefer Off Broadway

They are not bad but not for me. Takes a specific type of personality to rock them just like those racer jackets.

like

Back office people love Cole Haan stuff. Personally find those hybrid dress sneakers to be tasteless, ugly and utterly confusing.

like

I agree 100%. Monk straps are not for the common man that just wants to look well dressed and professional. They take sophistication and confidence to pull of.

like

🗣Say it again for the people in the back🗣

like

Wrong! Both monk straps and tassel loafers are 🔥 as long as you’re not shopping in the discount bin

smart

@D2 they’re far too busy

compared to what? wholecuts?

I had a recruiter reach out to me from Google 3 years ago about a role she thought I would be good for. She really advocated for me to be in the role but the hiring managers didn’t feel like I was qualified.
We had a discussion and she gave me a lot of good feedback on how I could be a stronger candidate and encouraged me to reach out to her directly for future opportunities. Fast forward to now, I’ve gained a lot of experience and skills. Should I reach out even though it’s been 3 years?
