Unpopular opinion: Victoria’s Secret shouldn’t get rid of the angels. Forced diversity is inauthentic, getting rid of the angels is only to appeal to new consumers. If someone doesn’t relate to VS, there are other options out there to shop from. VS’s angle is sexy and sex appeal, and that’s fine. Agent Provocateur is the same but gets no slack🤷‍♀️

OP - I really don’t understand on one hand you are saying VS is bringing a forced diversity and getting rid of their sexy angels and seems you have problem with that but on the other hand you say if someone doesn’t like VS they can shop elsewhere so why don’t you just do that??? 1) POC angels can be pretty and sexy too, it may be you aren’t used to think this way. 2) whatever May be the reason for VS opting for diversity we cannot deny the fact that modeling industry is changing and giving opportunities to women and men and others in all body shapes and colors so it is no longer a specific type of person(s) who are sexy anymore. 3) it’s a shitty lingerie company that sells product at 400% margin so WHO CARES!!!

Victoria’s Secret has been struggling for a while - they don’t just need new consumers, they’ve lost a lot of old ones. Clearly their out of touch brand and “sex sells” approach doesn’t work anymore. Evolve or die. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Victoria secret was never for women - it was a brand for men.

Try Nordstrom’s. They have bra fitters who are extremely helpful and offer a good assortment of brands of underwear and lingerie.

Yeah, I was really upset when companies change their marketing strategies to appeal to the current generation to boost sales. I mean... my little brain doesn’t get it. I still wear my little house on the prairie dresses, I don’t understand why women wanna hear pants. It’s just not feminine.

How DARE you say the word “ankle” around my virgin ears?! 🙅🏼‍♀️

What does "forced diversity" mean?

likesmartfunny

What is “authentic” about any marketing campaign? Lmao

likefunny

Idk I think that “diverse” women are also sexy and have sex appeal ….

likesmarthelpful

OP the longer you work in this world the more you will understand that businesses don’t care at all about authenticity. They care about the bottom line. This is why VS diversified. They want you to think it is b/c of “authenticity”. Seems like you fell for it pretty hard.

like

I haven’t bought a bra in 6+ years. Where are we shopping now? I’m 30 and feel out of touch already 😂

like

The quality is not good anyway.

Usually those that complain about diversity as being “forced” really just mean they don’t want inclusion at the expense of losing white/skinny/male representation. It’d be one thing if you were worried about VS diversity attempts resulting in tokenization. But seems like you just want to preserve the status quo.

likesmart

Black people can't be racist but they can certainly be bigoted and idiots. VS is a business - if they can't reach out to various women with various types of bodies, not just the idolized male version, they're not going to be as competitive as other brands that cater to all sizes and body types.

like

I think you should work out why you have a problem with anything that isn’t skinny and blonde in therapy. Anyway, adding “forced diversity” isn’t new for VS. Obviously sticking to their lane hasn’t worked as L Brands has been bleeding money for years. This is one attempt at keeping VS from going the way of The Limited.

like

I still wear old clothes from the Limited. I really loved that store.

like

I can’t remember the last time I thought of or purchased from Victoria’s Secret. They fell off tremendously and probably even more once fenty and other inclusive brands started popping up. I do believe this change is performative, however It would be interesting to see what the creative team comes up with for the brand.

like

It’s a business decision because ain’t nobody buying their ish anymore lol. But seriously, there are so many better brands out there with more inclusive and comfortable designs. They’re only changing because they literally can’t compete. They’ve struggled for years. Evolve or die.

like

Amennn

like

They agree with you but with competition from everywhere, they can either compete or die. They are barely escaping complete dissolution as it is. Shopping at VS is not even a sexy experience for women. They focused too much on Pink (for younger crowds) and making crappy bras sold to women by teenagers. Consumers realized they could do better and did.

like

Oh look, internalized misogyny 🤡

like

I never said 1 was better than the other, just stating the obvious.

I would not be sad to see this brand die. Everything they stand for is crap.

like

As 34B, I almost solely wear push up bras. I haven't found places that seem to have a good selection besides VS. So I still shop there for bras, but the underwear from VS falls apart with a couple washes. I have old pairs that are still kicking, but all the new ones fell apart in a month.

like

This one would do well in the confession bowl

like

Enjoy :)

VS is overrated af. Great when you have a small chest but their flimsy bras do not justify their ridiculous prices. Comparing them to AP is weird considering VS is in the mall next door to JCPennys. Fenty is booming because of their inclusivity. VS could take some pointers.

like

Basically I think VS switching it up is very fake and forced. I acknowledge it’s for the money, but they did tall sexy blonde very well and thats their appeal. Brands like Savage X Fenty started off embracing diversity and thats their target clientele. VS has their idea of sexy and I don’t buy that Megan Rapinoe (who is sexy but I guess edgy enough for them to feel excited) is all of a sudden going to rejuvenate and change the company inside out. They’re better off keeping their models and doing what they do. Diversifying or changing in some way just isn’t real and anyone who buys into the idea is being duped - we know who the store is for.

likefunny

Basically at this point, no one cares what you think OP.

This is a business move. VS is majorly struggling as a business and has been for years. They are dying slowly. They’ve reorged, closed stores, brought Les Wexner back even to lead the charge at times. Still they struggle. Their only real option is a strategic rebrand. Only time will tell if the public embraces it or not.

like

Op, the whole reason these other “options” as you put it exist is bc early 2000s brands only catered toward tall, skinny, mostly white women. There were no brands putting WOC or body positivity in the forefront and shocker, that’s most of American women. It’s hard to get behind a product when 1. It sucks (their bras never lasted more than a couple months) and 2. The brand preys on the insecurities that society projects on to young women/girls. It’s not a bad thing they’re starting to realize this and pivot their message to stay alive- the same way Trader Joe’s needed to start selling oat milk, VS has to update their brand to consumer changing tastes to appeal to a broader audience.

likesmart

Forget being a WOC as being in minority with these models. Try being a short person- you will NEVER ever see a model for any type of clothing that is short. 😢

like

I think their strategy consultants would disagree with you. “Don’t diversify” is a death blow to their business.

I’m a 1st year, hired early this year, and I’ve largely been doing litigation (mostly insurance and general civil lit) and recently we’ve had a shortage of corporate associates as a few went on leave so I’ve been asked to do more corporate work, and I’m struggling. It’s a huge learning curve and I’m constantly missing things in what is obviously a super detail-driven area (e.g. messing up defined terms, relying too much on precedents when it’s very situation-specific).
