Hi all, recently a recruiter from Amazon reached out for an SDE 2(2+ years of exp. required) role and I'm a recent CS grad. I gave the OA (which was extremely difficult w/ 99% cut-off) and other tasks related to the OA. A few hours back, I got a call from the recruiter that I had cleared the assessment and tasks and said that they are looking for 2+ years of exp. I said I'm open to the SDE1 role and said she'll ask her colleagues. Idk what to expect now 😥 Amazon Amazon India

Interviewers are after two things:
Job fit
Can I stand working with this person?
Brief interests humanize you.
Assuming people either hate it or love it. This would be non-professional hobbies i.e. martial arts, language learning etc. Something to talk about
I always recommend it
My resume has always had it. I have found tech companies always like it.
Always - if they are not interested in me as a person, they are probably not a company I want to work for
I have it...more as a conversation starter if necessary. Its come up in one out of 10 interviews.
Mine is 2 or 3 lines. It includes number of countries i have visited, next trip, something about hockey and my love / hate relationship w rowing
If it’s important to you and/or applicable to a professional setting, I’ve always included it. Depending on the culture, they’ll embrace it or see it as a distraction from your work (god forbid you have passions outside of the office).
It’s something I always keep — figure there’s only upside. Any opportunity to connect with someone on a more personal level about a shared interest. I slightly disagree with AT Kearney above as I see very limited downside. Though to that point, if they see it as a distraction and don’t hire you then, well, dodged a bullet, amirite?
Mine is three lines: board position, volunteering and outside interests/hobbies, languages and citizenship / work eligibility criteria
Depends on the company culture
I’ve included my extensive volunteer work - one person out of perhaps 20 asked about it. Makes me feel like people really don’t care
Do it!
