I didn’t realize that our tax dollars were the world’s piggy bank.

I do

smart

Choice is not one over the other.

1. Our infrastructure is dilapidated and needed massive investment 15 yrs ago, just look at our water as an obvious example. Majority of our cities look like crap. 2. Why would we pay for the entire world's vaccine? Those goobers have their own money.

like

And you may well be right but Covid is not going away anytime soon and if we play our cards right, 2 years of benevolence can result in 15 years of benefits. And I think it’s a high ROI given the cost. We can help say all of Africa, any country on the Belt road initiative and many such use cases to seal the deal and have mutually beneficial strings attached to it..

OP is proposing to spend $24k on rent/mortgage a year. Why can't OP just invest another $500 on feeding the homeless. If cost of a meal is $5, then OP could feed 100 homeless. Drop in the bucket.

like

Yeah but picture OP as an McK senior partner

If you haven’t driven on the tapenzee bridge in New York or ridden one of our lovely subway’s that catches on fire you don’t quite realize how badly we need infrastructure development. It’s at 3.5 trillion because we have things in use today that are 100 years old and we were to cheap to fix them and now we’re paying the price.

Money does not equate to scientific advancement. It requires super smart people a very long time to do these things. The covid vaccine was a hodge lodge of people trying to do DNA splicing and it was a complete failure (despite all the propaganda). Very dangerous to take the current vaccine. We need about 30 more years till DNA vaccines will be effective

likefunny

Why is “infrastructure” in quotes lol. As if fixing up roads and bridges is fake.

like

Social infrastructure is also really valuable and necessary

Because

Because financing infrastructure in the US gets fewer people to say “but what about X” than doing charity. And for a public servant (let alone a politician) that’s good, whether you just want to get re-elected or you genuinely care about the country. Also seriously need to fix those roads.

You are equating a 1 year $100B with a 10 year $3.5T, over 40% of which is already planned. They are counting the highway, waterway, and clean water future budget estimates in the infrastructure bill.

The primary vaccine challenge is not money. It's supply and distribution capability. Related to money, but not directly solvable for money at this time. Plus anti-vax, not just a US phenomenon.

Our baby is due soon so we’ve made the decision that we will only have visits from vaccinated family members (not realizing it would be an issue) only to find out that my Dad will never be getting vaccinated, planned to lie about it AND asked other family members lie to us about his vaccination status too… when we found out and asked him about it, he started to FREAK out. Now I’m questioning if we’re being unreasonable… how have you guys been handling unvaccinated people meeting your newborns??

Long post alert. Also, confusing post alert haha. So, I'm going to be divorced in the next few months and have 2 kids who'll be with me. Ever since this situation has been finalized, I'm becoming very conscious of our spend & have been tight about it. Covid has helped. But I noticed that even my grocery store bills are pretty high...like a single run to Meijer is $125+. Costco is like $200 or so. We've always had fresh fruits, nuts liberally used in our house. Since the start of the pandemic, I have been fairly safe and really haven’t gone anywhere (I think I went to TJ Maxx once in a moment of weakness lol). My family on the other hand hasn’t taken any precautions and actually did contract COVID. They keep telling me I’m paranoid and need to start going out but with COVID being worse now than it was back in March, I rather just not. I just want them off my back and wish they would respect my decision to not expose myself like I respected them.

Yesterday 2,216 innocent Americans died from COVID. Today, Donald Trump’s only public action was pardoning a person who plead guilty to lying to the FBI to protect Trump. I dare anyone to try to defend that.

I was hoping the vaccine would help us get back to more normal, open, and less restricted activities. In some ways it has but since there are so many unvaccinated, is there any other way we’ll be able to move forward from this pandemic? P.S. I’m not trying to start a big argument, I’m genuinely just looking for the light at the end of this tunnel.

So let me get this straight, Cuomo is accused of sexual assault and for fudging covid data. Prominent democrats all call on him to step down. The DOJ, under Barr’s direction, is actively investigating a sitting member of congress for sex trafficking of a 17 year old girl for the past 6 months. Gym Jordan and MTG’s response: a witch hunt and we stand with jailbait Gaetz. The rest of the GOP is silent. What a time to be alive.
