I just started a role last month but a role I’m more interested popped up at a company I was interviewing at in March. I don’t want to seem like a job hopper because I truly am not one. This role more clearly aligns with my personal and career goals. Is it a bad look to reach out if the other one may have disappeared because of COVID? Is the risk worth the reward?
Stock market weatherman here! Jobless claims up more than 1M, lowest since April. A second wave of COVID is on the way, no vaccine in sight. Stimulus has stalled. Tensions with China escalate. Weather model says these signs point to sunny skies 🌞 Not a cloud in sight, only higher highs.
Anyone feel like it’s not worth working around the hours anymore? Hard to stay motivated knowing that bonus and raises are cut, and promos are only for rare cases. Understand covid really hit us hard, but I’m still working just as hard and as much (if not more)
Has anyone tried www.standups.io to communicate with remote teams. Just started using it and really digging it. It’s so intuitive and allows for updates without coordinating live calls, etc. Have others tried?
Putting aside the Coronavirus impact, are/were the airlines overpriced? Looking at the historical prices, I'm a little challenged to accept such high stock prices (pre-covid). Thoughts?
I have now become a crazy succulent lady during my work from home... what are your new obsessions?
Trump’s efforts to suppress COVID19 info and rush our untested vaccines continues. His and Putin’s lackey, Caputo is now accusing CDC scientists of sedition. We need dump Trump on Nov 3, for the sake of our country. Folks who are not aware of Caputo - he actually worked for Putin as his PR consultant in Russia in early 2000s. Now his job is to sabotage the information coming out of CDC. Officially we have ~195k confirmed deaths but the number of excess deaths is over 250k (per Economist & NYT)
For those that took the GMAT in the covid era, did you have to wear both a mask and gloves at the testing center? Or just a mask?
If I have a bunch of money sitting in stocks (no options)...do I sell now? Wait & hope market goes up if/when COVID panic is over? 😬😬😬
Looking for a good room divider while we’re WFH. My husband and I share an office, our desks face each other. I don’t want to look at the back of his monitors / the disaster on his desk anymore so looking for something that goes between our desks. Something that muffles sound would be good as well but not required
Seeing as WFH has no end in sight for my company, it’s time to invest in an office chair. Is there such a thing as an aesthetically pleasing office chair? Looking at Laura Davidson, but unsure of quality and comfort. Anyone have one?
Tell me I’m not the only one finding it SO hard settling into a new job that’s completely remote, within a pandemic? It’s been 5 months and I’m struggling so bad.
Guess Texas, Arizona, and Florida weren't really prepared. https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavirus/ny-coronavirus-cases-spike-texas-florida-arizona-after-reopening-20200604-6uasqse47rbepfmn3uwhooperu-story.html
How do you all define bringing your authentic self to work. Growing up I was taught to have a clear distinction between home and work so I don’t really talk about my personal life at work (though doing it more in these Covid times) and it’s been like that for me working in all dynamics, be it predominantly African, white or a mixed setting. Don’t really talk about my family, what I do on weekends etc except with the select few people I have become friends with. For context I am west African.
Anyone tried to meet up with former or current colleagues in real life during Covid? How do you approach it? I’m going to be traveling out of state next month and want to reach out to people in that state.
Should I move to NYC in the fall for graduate school or take classes remotely for the time being? Would be coming from a low Covid zone and would obviously quarantine for the first two weeks. Question is around whether you think it’s “worth it”. 1/3 of my classes will be held in person.
My daughter just landed her first job out of college. Chicago, account assistant. 40k plus bonus. Two wks vacation, plus 13 sick/personal days. How does this rate?
Have been at same company since I graduated. Thinking of existing to big tech. Can anyone tell me how important is networking for big tech? Is referral good enough or do I need to have conversations with hiring managers? How do I find hiring managers if that is the case?
I feel like I'm the only one on my project working, but nobody seems to notice the lack of deliverables from the other teammate.
Have a Strategy & Operations associate interview with a VC based startup in a high COL. I’m 2 YOE and the YOE required is 3-5. If they ask my targeted salary range, what should I ask? I wanted to say 100-130k but I can’t tell if that’s unrealistic
How easy it is to roll off from a project if they don’t think you are doing a good job and the next project is looking for you ?
It seems like silicone valley is really driving a corp culture change adopted by all industries that is something similar to the hunger games..it feels sociopathic.
Project might be changing to travel every other week. Super unproductive and stir crazy when I work from home.
TFW you were on the bench one day after 3 months straight on the road and then being told there's an immediate need. 😩
In the spirit of educated investments.. I though I will share the earning calendar for this week. It’s a big week for big tech earning. 2 questions: 1. What are your big earning plays for the week? Personally, it’s AMD And VISA calls that I am holding. 2. How do you research on earning expectations/announcements? I do a bit of google search and read a few top articles, but don’t think that’s enough.
For HR folks, what do companies do when you resign during the holiday shutdown period? Do they let you go immediately?
I am on a 2-person team w/ an incompetent supervisor who wants to meet daily 30-60min since we're working remotely. The bulk of the mtgs is her sharing her feelings and thoughts on covid-19. Any tips?
I probably spent over $2000 this past year but started my first year as a self-contained SPED teacher in an autism program. Such different supplies needed then the general education classroom.
