How do you all calm yourself down and mentally prepare for the week? Bad case of Sunday scaries knowing my colleague is going on vacation this week and I’m gonna have to balance a lot of work
Starting MBB soon and would appreciate any recommendations on preparing myself for success on my first day? I’ve got a number of weeks until I start and will take some time off, but I’d also like to stay sharp and come in feeling confident. Any suggestions are welcome.
Was it a weak year for vendor holiday gifts?
I need perspective. I was scheduled for a bunch of spa services today before a vacation. Early in the morning, a spa lady calls me to reschedule. I tell her I can’t reschedule due to my job. She replies that she remembers me mentioning that from a previous appointment she “helped me rescue.” She never acknowledged knowing me prior to that comment. I was offended as it came across as judging my stress level and availability based on a service I received years ago. Did I get unreasonably upset?
Attending work events while on leave: Hey 🐠 - is there a consensus on whether or not to attend events like the office holiday party while on a LOA like Parental leave? Is it weird?
Are there jobs in advertising (or out for that matter) where taking vacation time doesn't feel bad?
People who schedule their wedding on holiday weekends are the worst. I’m not changing my holiday plans for you…
Does anyone else feel as though they ought to either (1) quit your job or (2) cry when senior folks in your department boast somehow (or complain) they’ve not taken a week+ long vacation in two years?
Is it acceptable to give your 2 weeks with some days that encompass a holiday (I.e. Memorial Day and the Friday before).
Has anyone flew this week? What is it like at the airports? I’m supposed to travel to North California this week for vacation but don’t know if I should go anymore
Anyone ever been to Portugal in November? I have some time off during thanksgiving and there’s some RT flights for $500 but it sounds like November is the cold & rainy season. I’ve always wanted to go though, but the weather makes me nervous. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Has anyone ever tried negotiating for more vacation rather than a higher salary? I'm applying and interviewing for jobs right now. Some firms have unlimited PTO while others only give a few weeks. Personally, I'm much more interested in getting an additional week of vacation and would rather negotiate for that but usually only hear of people negotiating for salary. Has anyone had experience with this?
Who is doing a Christmas/holiday party or other client appreciation event this year? My partner and I are struggling with what to do given Covid.
IPG folks: have any of you switched to a different agency within the network? Were you able to "bring" your benefits with you to the new agency? Things like 401(k) matching, vacation days, etc?
What do you tell account team and clients when a junior team member (who was covering for someone who was on vacation) made mistakes so bad it's jeopardizing the client relationship?
ITW Illinois Tool Woks is another loser. I'm sharing all active trades. this is another re-opening trade. I opened this at the end of November, and the long is down about 45%. The trade is only down about 15% though as the shorts have been rolled a few times already. Since I have 82 more days in the long, I can roll the shorts at least 7 times and even at $1 each the trade is a small winner. If TIW even goes down another 50% it becomes a decent winner.
We're thinking of rolling out a weight loss competition company wide as part of our Health and Wellness month. Has anyone done something like this at their company and if so, is there an app that you recommend using? We want to keep people's actual weight loss amount confidential - we would love something that would record their percentage lost instead! Thanks in advance for any tips!
Biglaw first year deferred from September to late January with a $10k advance. I had to incur $11,000 in credit card debt to live, & right when I started work, had a medical emergency that ended up costing me another $3,500. My paychecks have been smaller due to paying back the advance and prioritizing maxing out my 401k and HSA (my credit card debt was interest free). It was depressing working these hours to mostly just pay needs and my debt. Today I paid it all off! Woooooo! I feel so free.
Does anyone know if there is a California JCCP equivalent in Washington State? Thanks in advance!
Hey guys - I work at FAANG right now, and planned on an mba in the next 2-3 years. Have an opportunity with McKinsey as a consultant. Always wanted to work there, but only for a short stint - feel like it will 1) boost my overall profile for an mba application 2) give me the experience I’m looking for before mba because post mba I’d like to focus on my own venture. Also folks at McKinsey - would love to hear what conditions there are for getting an mba sponsored at the firm. Thanks!
Is EY still sending out H1B notifications today? Haven't heard anything yet and wonder if that means I didn't get it...

Honest question- In this time where women are striving for equality and men need to play a key role in making this happen, why do we have women only conferences? How does alienating men help? #GHC19😑
Any Slalom Philly fish here? I was contacted by a recruiter and am interested in learning more about the office/culture
Lot of negatives from Covid. Am curious to poll this crowd on what we think the long term positives will be, both for consultants and society at large. Let’s generate some positive vibes.
Hey all, I remember seeing a email where it states PTO this year will not effect utilization.. But i see it resulting in a low utilization for me.. Both standard and adjusted are at 75%..Can someone please help me understand this.. Thanks
Any big law firms offering full remote positions (post-pandemic) for corp/M&A associates? Other than WSGR, Husch, Fenwick or Orrick?
What's the best way to prepare a business case presentation? I've been invited to a final round interview for a medical device company as a process optimization consultant. They sent me a client case study. In the case there are pain points of the client, and some numbers to analyze their workflow and recommend them to use their medical devices for process improvement. I'm not sure how to stucture it. how would you approach it?
For people who are familiar with work culture in Tokyo, how much embezzlement takes place? I see a good number of Japanese people on Instagram buying Bentleys and such. I'm confused how they can do so while living in a high COL with, on average, lower salaries than in the US. With the scandal at Nissan and how many executives were found to be stealing money from the company, I wonder if this is some unspoken secret about doing business in Tokyo? Unless their comp curve is extremely steep.
Just started at a tier ii but received a MBB offer slated to begin in 2020. I lateraled from another tier II so it would be 3 consultancies in 6 months... any advice to handle?
I get mistaken as a student at the school I work at. How can I establish my authority in the classroom as well as on campus?
New parents - how are you balancing work and childcare demands? Please share your tricks!!! It’s been 14 months since our first child and still struggling. Been waking up 4am to get work done, but plans often get derailed with unforeseen circumstances with childcare needs. And not to mention burnout with long days of staying up, for childcare, home and work routines. Context - male here, M, working spouse, 14 month baby, started daycare for few months now, no immediate family support to help.
Raise % for a second year senior in FDD?
Tax advice for 30 year old - combined household income pretax is $204K, $28K in checking, $72K in 401K (maxed out), $13K in Roth IRA (maxed out till last year), Fidelity Go balance is $43K. Stocks stand at around $9K. I’m assuming I cannot contribute the full $6K to the IRA this year. Anything else I should probably look into?
