Yeah, it’s exhausting. We’re in the thick of it with my toddler & newborn right now. It’s honestly so awful, but there’s nothing you can do but get through it the best you can. Cool mist humidifier, steamy bathroom showers, boogie spray and nose frida are your best friends.
Nose Frida for the win. That thing saved us so many times!
Right there with you. Three weeks straight of runny noses for my 4 month old. I keep envisioning how much harder it would be to settle down a 6 year old who doesn't want to nap because of a stuffy nose and it helps a little bit.
A few:
-if they can still breathe well enough through their nose to eat, feed them on breast or bottle in a small bathroom with the shower running. Forces them to breathe through their nose and loosen up the snot. I do one boob in the bathroom, then go suction, then finish up.
-if they're too stuffy to eat well without suctioning, then steam before suction and eating
-all the humidifiers
-prop up one end of the mattress with a towel underneath so they drain better while sleeping
-if too stuffy to nap well, carrier naps can work
-use one of the saline spray cans and use it liberally between suctions -- used to do it only once at the start and my results have improved since I started doing it multiple times
It’s horrible and made worse by the Covid protocols and how often they force you to Covid test for any illness or stay out multiple days.
I empathize.

Thank you! This is true and I think we as parents are also super stressed because of covid! My baby has been in a bubble forever due to covid and just started daycare so it’s partly because he has been so protected for so long! Funny thing this week has me crying from drop off at daycare to now having a cranky and sick baby in my arms…
Yeah. Entire month of Sept my baby had back to back illness. Head cold, followed by hand/foot/mouth. Then another cold. Was awful.
Oct was a good month- no illness. Fast forward to this week and she has a runny nose and congested. It’s rough. And each time she’s out, we have to Covid test before she can return.
It’s hard. My spouse and I sit down and compare calendars to come up with a plan for coverage. It’s not easy- meetings have to move or we take a day off.

Sending you strength and solidarity! I am a FTM and trying to find strength to go through this phase. It’s tough seeing the kiddo sick with no appetite but I hear that kids are resilient and fight back! Can you please share some tips on how you and hubby tag teamed? I am a FTM and would appreciate any tips and suggestions to get through this phase. Feeing very guilty and helpless
Two colds which required two COVID tests and a mild case of hand foot mouth. That was just in the first two months where our 2.5 yr old was back in daycare.

That sounds rough! Hope the kiddo is not better adjusted? How did you manage work? I am thinking of taking some time off but not sure if runny nose qualifies for a day off! I am always second guessing if I as a mom doing enough or just making too much of a mole hole.
We made it as balanced as possible- taking equal days off and coordinating the schedule around important meetings.
We also found when our child was out a week- taking full days off vs the hand off during the day was much easier. When you’re splitting the shift on a day, make sure you plan to have 5 mins to get settled into your computer and ready for your meeting.
I block time on my calendar when I’m out and I keep to my scheduled meetings- I have no problem dropping a couple mins before the meeting ends Bc I also want to be respectful of my spouses calendar/schedule too.

This is helpful! Thank you
Hang in there. Also, make sure it isn’t a ear infection

Thank you! We got him checked but nopes it’s old fashioned cold and our pediatrician warned that this will continue all winter! ALL WINTER! I better get some wine…
