The summer (and August in particular) can really slow down. I'd probably chill for now and then start being really proactive on finding work after labor day.
Are you looking to make partner? If so then I would try and be aggressive. It’s probably just a matter of things being slower over the summer, but you should try and be seen so that whatever work there is comes to you. As for whether you’d get pushed out - if a firm is hiring someone very senior then they probably wanted them for the long term - either as counsel or partner. Seniors are also (slightly!) less replaceable compared to juniors so I’d be surprised if you let go just because of a couple of slow months.
I’d like to make partner eventually, but I have no problem being associate or counsel for several years. I just need to not get pushed out in under 3 years, but I also don’t wanna grind lol. Trying to find that balance while blocking out stress (hence posting on fishbowl)…

Classic stress when you have work and stress when you don’t. I joined a big firm in April, super slow. Hard to know how much is ramp up, summer slowdown or market slowdown. Just be proactive, or go chill by the lake while you can still chalk up low hours to your ramp up time
