My salary was 3.8 LPA at the time of interview(it became 4LPA from August) and i asked for 6.5 LPA Need advice on whether or not to expect the Offer Letter in hand once 3 weeks are over? This is usually true for your home state, assuming you love in a state that has income tax. You can split or ask HR to reduce W/H with other states where you are expected to work. If you worked in multiple states and filing tax returns in other states, you can claim a credit in home state(where you are resident) for taxes paid or the taxes you will pay to other states.
I’d probably look at their NR return to see if it’s required. Under 2 weeks I’d think may be an exception.
Which state, OP? Some states require full wages and then use an apportionment factor on the return to reduce.
For NY it’s the full amount and you do a # of days worked allocation when you file, IIRC.
Yep - for me in NY it’s always my full income reported in NY even tho I’m on a 3/4/5
Sounds like an error
I live in FL and work here all year, other than the 10 days i worked in NY. TurboTax didn't prompt me to file a state return for NY, and I had about $51 withheld. Then there was a dollar amount for NYS TX WG in box 14. Not sure if i have to file a state tax return for NY?
You don’t have to file a state return until you meet a certain threshold in that state. $51 is probably de minimis. You’re also not paying state income tax in Florida
Very helpful, thanks everyone!
