Waiving into New Jersey via ube score and I have some C&F concerns(i disclosed everything.)

1) I had a 90 past due $500 credit card balance in the past year, during the gap between graduating and starting my job. I immediately paid it off.

2) in 2020, an eviction was filed before I received my student loans but I immediately paid my balance and never had an subsequent issues.

3) I was involved in a fight in undergrad and had an informal reprimand (no records exist)

Am I in trouble?

No. Disclose, explain, contextualize, and don't stress about it. Bar admission authorities, like any prosecutor, have limited resources and aren't going to waste energy on people with low stakes issues that don't represent serious moral turpitude and have been resolved.

Source: i worked in bar admissions before law school, the stuff you describe does not hold a candle to the things that got C&F investigations going full speed ahead.

Thank you. I feel like a lot of the process is shrouded in mystery, though. You mentioned that some things trigger full-on investigations; how is that different from what is the norm?

Would they do like a professional background check and candidates with significant discrepancies would be flagged?

If you saw the shit on my record before I got admitted, you wouldn't be remotely worried about this.

When I am presented with these questions from nervous law grads, I always remind them of the man who was convicted of armed robbery, got out of prison, went to LS, and ended up clerking for-- if I'm not mistaken-- the second circuit and then SCOTUS. You can Google to verify the details.

Don't worry about it. Just have your paperwork in order.

No, I had a bunch of credit issues and even got sued at one point bc I was so broke in college and couldn’t pay bills. The key is to be 100% honest and just disclose everything - even if no records exist! No BS and you’ll be fine.

NJ might take a little longer to go thorough, they are particularly slow with C&F issues, but it’ll all eventually work out. Had friends in law school that passed the NJ bar but get held up on C&F issues, requiring some interviews that were not required of most applicants, but it all eventually worked out. FWIW, their issues were significantly more problematic (although still not awful) - one had previously filed for bankruptcy and the other had a DUI.

Barred in DC and NY. Former crimes of moral turpitude and not so much as an interview. Let me right in.

Just disclose and explain. I had a public intoxication charge when I was 19 and was pretty rude (I found out later) to the guy who arrested me. I basically passed out on the hood of a cop car. Don’t ask. I had to explain all of this years later and the guy interviewing me for the character and moral fitness stuff told me how he once punched another lawyer out on the courthouse steps. I’m not joking. He was older—and old school—though. Anyway, I said I learned my lesson and had no issues with that blight on my record going forward. We a actually kind of bonded on that interview, but in the back of my mind was “man, I just got drunk. I never assaulted anyone!“

I have a basic of 20 lpa currently, working as a band 30 - Sr Analyst at Amex. I feel I am significantly undercompensated. I was promoted this year in Feb and will be promoted to manager most likely next year. I wanted to understand from you guys if this is the right time for me to switch and get a good hike.
My total experience is close to 4 years. At Amex I have been for 2 years and 8 months.
Thanks

My close group of friends (10 of us) are 28-30 & have really successful careers! (We’re all first Gen working women too!)
I have a new friend who is in her mid 30’s & doesn’t really have a career. She’s in a relationship & mostly relies on her partner.
I feel bad because my close girlfriends & I are always doing things (spa days, dinners, brunches, travel) and she can’t afford to go.

I always want to be inclusive and think of others - what would you do?

Any advice on breaking bad habits/mentalities after leaving a toxic firm? I just started at a new firm that I genuinely really like, but I’ve started to realize how much my prior, very toxic firm messed up my mentality about certain things. For example, the partners at my new firm are super approachable and supportive, but I feel like my old firm conditioned me to still be deeply terrified of reaching out to partners in general with questions and to get feedback. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I work in insurance defense and there seems to be a thought or attitude amongst many plaintiffs lawyers that all insurance defense lawyers have “sold out” or have somehow lost their souls and are now working for the bad guys.
