All my MBB 🐠, is there anyone who would be willing to chat with me about your role and experience, the company culture and work and potentially work with me to see if I am a good fit and also if you would be willing to refer me? I am currently a Senior Consultant at EY.
FAANG good MBB bad, am I doing it right
Where do more boutique firms (like Oliver Wyman, Roland Berger, Huron, zs, slalom) rank in comparison to big 4 or Accenture or ibm? I know mbb is top tier but I feel like everyone else is debatable
Quick Q for y’all. Im having trouble finding cases that match the level of difficulty that I experienced in my BCG interview. Anyone know of a good repository for MBB level cases ?
How do I get MBB good @ PPT? I’m a staff 2 in consulting & have only had long term projects; teams rarely used decks. I know ppt well, so the Q is more directed towards designing pretty slides.
Coming from tech, $500k TC. What level at MBB pays this much? Feeling the itch to get back on the road again.
I am currently a SA at EY-Parthenon on the West Coast and looking to case for MBB. Comment if interested.
From talking to students at multiple M7 schools, it seems like all of the BB/MBB/FAANG companies recruit at most if not all of the schools . So if you're planning on recruiting for one of these, is there really a major difference in career opportunities between each school? Asking because it seems like some schools are specifically known for finance vs consulting vs tech, but if the companies are all recruiting at all these schools, the differences don't seem as pronounced to me.
MD friend looking to make switch to consulting. Is MBB best option? Also any referrals? Chi based
Wow. McKinsey, which has the biggest public sector presence of the MBB, really hasn't been doing too hot at all in the sector. Its presence is tiny and it's gotten even smaller. Meanwhile it's bungling whatever opportunities it's getting. https://www.propublica.org/article/how-mckinsey-is-making-100-million-and-counting-advising-on-the-governments-bumbling-coronavirus-response
Based on your experiences working at or interacting with MBB, what notable differences are there in their culture/people, work, and work-life mix?
Anyone else out there getting rejected fast from MBB during this hiring spree? NoobsTogrtherStrong
How would you rank the non-MBB strategy shops? Including strategy “divisions” within larger firms
People who’ve left MBB/consulting for FAANG: Is it everything you thought it would be? Better or worse how?
What are typical exit opportunities for MBB project leaders/team leaders/engagement managers?
MBB recruiter said I'd hear about my application (whether or not I'd get an interview) by today. haven't heard a word - what should I do? I'm thinking of sending a gentle reminder tomorrow morning, but definitely don't want to look pushy
How do you pay for an MBA/justify the cost if you don’t exit into IB/PE/MBB/Tech? Is there anyone that go to an M7 that isn’t trying to get into one of the above and also doesn’t come from a wealthy background? i.e going into marketing to CPG, how much does that pay post-MBA?
When you are switching firms, what do you care about? What kind of questions do you have? Do you ask about where the company is going and what strategies they are taking? How do you ask about culture? Do you ask about happy hours or team composition? What matters to you other than compensation and WLB? I’m trying to be a more curious person, and not just focused on the money
I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Each time I ask for guidance on this from my manager, I get told they’ll look into it.... would love some external mentorship and thoughts 🙏🏼
How do people in industry get promoted so fast? I have friends at fortune 500s who get promoted once a year or even less. Even my younger cousin just graduated last year, and at 8 months got promoted to “customer success manager” whereas in Big 4 I’ll be in my late 20s by manager
Let's say I'm looking at an industry or otherwise non-traveling role. Is it fair to consider travel benefits (meals/per diem, miles, alt travel) as part of total compensation?
St Regis butler emailed me so many times before my trip that I felt like I was going to the St regis just to visit him. When I met him, it was as if we already knew each other.
Got an offer from a local boutique management consulting firm with an 18% salary bump and amazing bonus. Is it worth leaving GT? Apprehensive about leaving large company for a tiny one
For those of you who have stayed with the same company which you started, when did you see the most significant salary bump? Why/how did it happen?
Given all the recent buzz about expected large raises around the big 4, I’d like to level set on the average salary for a 4th/5th year female senior manager in federal tax ( credits & methods group) in the Midwest - Chicago/Minneapolis/Detroit market. Anyone willing to share a range if they work in a similar area of tax / similar level? I recognize all groups vary greatly in salary expectations, so looking for input specific to my area. Current expectations set at 140-160k. Reasonable?
I'm an account manager, but want to get better at helping and managing my team. So, I've started doing some of the copywriting myself so I can get a better feel for what's involved, what's needed, and how I can help others improve. I recently attended an SEO conference and then spent a weekend reading everything I can get my hands on. I've also got a reading list I'm building out. What are your favorite books and sources to become better at copywriting?
How does everyone bill for travel? Example - flying out Monday for a depo on Tues Wed, flying back Thursday. My gut has always been to bill for working hours time on the flying days and hearing days, but is that what everyone does? Can I bill 8 hours (or more) for a full travel day even if I’m not working every minute (but I’m also not not-working)? Nobody at my firm talks about this and at this point I’m too embarrassed to ask.
I am on H1-B visa, open to relocate and looking for State & Local Tax (Income/Franchise) Experienced Senior/Manager opportunity. Which companies are currently hiring visa candidates? Appreciate the responses, thank you!
Do you enjoy the work at MBB? I know the hours can be long, but is the work interesting and/or enjoyable?
How's Edelman NY? Getting hit up for Health which I've never done. It'll entail moving from advertising to PR/earned creative as they call it, and the Health category. Didn't sound like hard sell pharma, quite a bit of branded video content. I searched on FB, sounded mostly negative culturally (employee fired during Pride month, political, creatives better watch their backs, climate denier) with a few who love it. Figured I'll ask if anything's changed, if it's even worth ... considering.
Anyone else feel/felt out of breathe just talking a lot during a Zoom meeting? Third trimester and trying to have "Executive Presence" is so hard when you are bloated, burpy and winded during pregnancy.
Would you ever take a class haircut to lateral to what is considered a “worse” firm (but a firm that is better known in your practice area)? I’d be slightly shifting practice groups (which is why the haircut was mentioned. If so, would you ask for some massive bonus?
My manager is a woman, and she is always commenting on how I look in front of everyone - and it just gets so weird. Ex: on Zoom calls with everyone, she’ll call attention to my outfit, or to my extensions, or to my make up when it REALLY ISNT THAT BAD! Plus we Zoom with all other guys so it’s like UGH stop making it weird. And it’s never a straight forward compliment - it’ll be like “Hey arent you cold in that shirt?” *attention is automatically on my shirt”.CONT.
After 3 rounds of interviews (total 4 inc recruiter screen) over the past 5 odd weeks, just got told by a T2 consulting firm that they doesn’t sponsor H1B visas which is frustrating because they were aware of my visa situation right at the start. Sigh 😢. Understand it happens but frustrating nonetheless given the time and effort invested.
