Want to get everyone's thoughts on a trend I'm seeing lately. Not yet at my own company but with people close to me.

I'm sure we've all seen the uptick in companies asking their employees to come in to the office more often.

Given the economic environment, does anyone feel that companies are doing the Musk thing: mandatory office attendence to cloak a need for a workforce reduction? Like coaching people out so you don't have to fire them and be the bad guy essentially.

This will only work at companies like Tesla where people want to work there because it’s trendy, at other companies they’re not going to be able to do this because 1. people will just quit and find a job where they can work remotely and/or 2. they won’t be able to hire people because they don’t offer flexible work location.

I agree with the second point but the first point is what I'm saying, that they would want to reduce their workforce by putting these policies in place. They're getting people to quit so they don't need to fire them later.

If my assumption is mistaken, that to me might even make it worse, because it means the executive team at a lot of these companies have spent so much time in IB or Management Consulting or Private Equity or roles that are people facing that they can't understand why some roles don't need that.

I have one meeting per week. Work is an hour and fifteen minutes away. I would add 626 hours to my year if I needed to drive there every day. It's out of touch and anticompetitive.

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.

How do you know if you’re using a good recruiter? I connected with mine when I replied to a mass email because he’s part of a company that allegedly works closely with the firm/type of firm I want to join. We spoke a couple of times and he seems nice but clearly didn’t even review my resume, which I feel is the most important as the first impression doc..? Is it bad to switch to someone else at his company..?

This isn't a salary negotiation but, how do you structure an employee contract to make sure what is promised is actually delivered by the company? I was promised I would only do a small X% of a service line, while the rest of my time will be spent bringing in new business and building out a team in a new Geo. Do I just ask to see that in writing? Never done this before so any help is appreciated.



Should you get paid more to go into the office?


Sometime I feel like I'm operating at lower capacity than during the height of Covid trying to navigate billables and no childcare/remote school. Anyone else feel this way? Are we just burnt out from all the working nights and weekend in 2020/2021?
