Want to rent a place in a NJ suburb to test out before buying. We've never lived in the suburbs and never in anything other than a luxury building apartment. So we think it may be good to test out what it's like to live in the suburbs by renting before actually buying a home. Looking for a safe neighborhood fairly close to a train station but with enough opportunities for shopping, dining and entertainment. Which NJ suburb would you recommend? At my school there are buttons being passed out that say, “She/her, he/him they/them.” I have no problem with anyone wearing these buttons but I don’t like feeling pressure to wear one myself. No one is telling me to wear one but people talk about how inclusive it is to wear one and most staff do. Would you say this was unprofessional, or would you have done the same? I was called out to present on a call mon night on which I got humiliated with questions: such as why are you telling us this, what even is this that you are sharing, kept getting cut off to explain myself. I was of course the only woman in the meeting. I literally cried after that’s how awful I felt. So today, similar call was scheduled, I just rejected, said I had something urgent come up and didn’t go.

Anyone else feel like they’re not right for the corporate world? It’s not my personality to let my manager know of everything I’m working on - I’m heads down and I get the job done and only bring him in if I need help. However, I’m now learning that this is hurting me because my more vocal colleagues are being recognized for tasks I already do. I just hate these corporate games. Why isn’t it enough to just do the work well?

I’ve been in corporate America and Finance for less than a year but every time I have interacted with a woman who’s an MD or higher up, seeking mentorship or advice, they have just been so cold and rude! I’m also POC and have actively reached out to other WOC who are senior to me and I keep experiencing this. I can understand being busy and having more than you can juggle on your hands but I do not understand the lack of empathy? Albeit my sample size is small here but is it just me?

Compensation Q: I am a financial advisor, licensed, have my CFP, 6 yrs of experience. I’m on a team w $1B AUM and handle all of the financial planning and estate projections for clients with NW up to $300M (only CFP on the team) & am the primary relationship manager for ~50 clients ($100k-$4m AUM/client). What type of resources do you feel are important for you to succeed at work/in your position?

Do you think a dress that ends a couple inches above the knee is appropriate for the office? Do you have suggestions on how to lengthen it or make it more office appropriate? I don’t typically wear tights but could in winter with this dress… I really love how it fits every where else so I don’t want to skip it! I got it used from Salvation Army so it’s not like I paid a fortune but still.

My manager consistently makes condescending remarks about my work even though I’m overworked and prioritize what is urgent. I regularly work 12-13+ hours a day but never receive any confirmation or recognition that I’m doing a good job and there is always something to criticise.
