Wanting some advice / help from any UX UI designers!

I’m looking to change careers from Cyber Security to UX and I’ve done some courses, made a portfolio and worked freelance for two clients.

I feel confident in my knowledge and skills but when I apply to roles I keep getting turned away without any interviews.

I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on what works to put in a portfolio, or if anyone would be kind enough to take a look at my resume / portfolio and offer any advice?

Hey all, I find that in interviews I have so much content in my brain, examples, etc and I’d love to learn how to express things in a better way. Putting thought to mouth. I find that when expressing complex ideas, I put them in terms that don’t exactly reflect my true thought (such as over simplifying) and I end up underselling. My initial thought is to watch more content, read more to learn phrasing, etc but I’d love thoughts from seasoned professionals. Any tips welcome!

If I say I am a java developer, what skillet would be expected from me in an interview... I have worked in a support project.

Interviewed a nanny who warned us she plans to get a bunch of tattooes and die her hair. It doesn’t bother me but I know it bothers some. Should I be worried/bothered by it?!

Where can I take a video interview downtown? Job searching and noticed employers are doing video interviews for round 1 or 2 now. I need to be in office for my proj, WFH not an option.

Is it okay to show work that isn't live yet in an interview?

How much are recruiters expected to know for roles they are trying to fill? So far my experience with a couple is they have just said the same general things when I was hoping for more specifics (i.e. flexibility/WFH policies, upward progression potential, etc.) for roles to figure out if worth the time to try and interview for everyone involved. Not sure if I’m expecting too much

Can anyone share on-site interview experience at Google for marketing roles? Any case studies, etc?

Hey everyone- So I didn’t get an offer for a consulting role that I had initially applied for, however the recruiter said all the feedback was positive and they’d like me to interview for a different role in the group. Are my chances of getting this other role a lot higher ? Thoughts? Thanks!

Had a McKinsey recruiter give me a screen call then gave me times for another interview. I had work conflicts so asked if another time worked and never heard back. It's been two weeks and no responses to my follow ups, am I doomed?

(Is Mckinsey being slow as hell lately with recruiting and I'm still in the running, or was I ghosted and rejected?)

I have a case interview w/ EY this week and have never done one before. I am about positive it will be an M&A case. What’s the most efficient way to study for this?

I work at a large cpa firm that like the idea of me hiring ALL the Associate IIs to Sr Managers that I can in any and every market I serve. Sometimes I help with other roles at well. In agency it was the same thing because actual placements paid the bills. An open rec was just a symbol of an opportunity I should always be aware of.

Today I interviewed with a firm that asked me about the number of recs I manage. I couldn’t answer and I’m pretty sure that makes me the luckiest recruiter ever.

What are case interviews like for Apple? Is it similar to consulting case interviews

Looking through old decks I've submitted for job interviews during the last year and realize that they're my best work. No review cycles from SMs, MDs etc. I think it's a sign that it's time to exit.

I am an African American woman who recently started dating a white man for the first time in my life. I had no intentions of dating him but my friends urged me to being that I was in my mid 30s and single with no real options in sight. I gave him a chance and although it started off a bit awkward he grew on me over time.

Can someone please explain why it is bad for the hedge funds that they can’t buy back their GME stocks after shorting/selling them? I think I understand that the low-price buyback is part of shorting but why can’t they just invest the money they made selling GME, elsewhere? As a new joiner in the Bay Area, is the stock annually or monthly vested?

During the pandemic we started incorporating SparkHire for one way video interviews and now my hiring managers are super attached to it. It was intended to cut down on rounds of interviews - one SparkHire + 1 in person meeting. But now I'm seeing a lot of candidates drop off and not follow through on the spark hire. Is there any argument to hold onto one way video interviews anymore or should I drop it?

Salary question: 8th year attorney on transactional real estate and public law. Jumped around a bit on my resume but solid and well liked attorney. Located in Los Angeles. Several job offers incoming.

Offers are about $200k, small bonus potential ($5-16k per year), 1850 billable requirement.
