I was laid off during Deloitte‘s mass layoff in July of last year. I have worked as an independent contractor since and projects haven’t been consistent at the client I’m working for. I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.

I would challenge the 4-5x of your hourly rate. It’s true that’s the rate our firms charge, but that rate isn’t for the specific resource, but the infrastructure and knowledge of the firm that brings it. Most seniors are guided by subject matter experts within the firm who have structured the projects and activities based on industry and functional knowledge our junior resources lack.
For someone at the junior level, I think your rate would be closer to a contractor rate and not a consulting bill rate. For that, I would guess somewhere in the $40/hr - $100/hr (at the highest end).
Agree - $125/hr max for a consultant level. I’ve seen directors get paid $175/hr ish
If you already have a job, why not ask for payment in equity rather than cash?
Company: “we’d like to offer you $X”
You: “Instead of cash, what about paying me entirely in equity?”
Is this your only source of income or is this a nights and weekend thing for you right now?If you are on your own, you need to factor in insurance, vacation, taxes, etc. After that, it comes down to what your time is worth, and whether or not you are viewing this as an audition or a needed source of income. Setting your price will come down to how valuable the work is you are doing for them.
Nights / weekends! Thank you
