Hopefully you’re not one of those who sell something virtually impossible to deliver (as in big project with a skeleton team and no contingency budget)
Can we create a bowl regarding the art of selling? Would love to continue to hone this skill
This is one of the greatest jobs in the world, and it’s even better when you like it
^i can taste the saltiness from here... you must be a joy too work w ith
Yeah C1. 1. Think you know tons of shit about technical delivery and make giant promises regarding implementation which requires both raw technical skills and subject matter expertise.2. Spend the next three months wondering why your team cannot deliver and you can't find people at 80k in house that can deliver highly technical work and understand how it impacts the relevant industry.
Honestly leaving because of people like you and that fact someone in my position who cannot understand basic SQL makes that same as me. I'll make more at my level somewhere else than I would at SM in Deloitte. And you people actually think you're the ones delivering value hahahahahaha
Why terrifying? It's a rush!
Consulting lifestyle was something I was going to walk away from for more balance in my life. Terrifying because I realize I like this.....
I feel you. I had a shitty engagement in 2016 that really soured me on my firm and this job. Was desperately looking for an exit. Finally got myself rolled off, landed on an amazing account where I'm selling work like crazy and likely to make director this year because of it. Just needed to find the right environment and as another poster said, this can be the greatest job in the world.
Selling work is a rush. From ideas on paper to the short list prep....averaged $5m a year since Sr.Assoc. as lead. And he'll, trying to manage scope and turn what you pitches into reality is just as fun. People always bitch about the project being scoped bad etc. but never realize a lot of it is in what the client wanted. The innovation is turning something weak and full of assumptions into reality. And getting to be involved from sales through completion, worth it to see how it all came together. Fuck I love my life today, even after an 18 hour day.
Yesss C1!!
I'm still too junior to take point on pursuits, but I can't wait. Building relationships with clients and leadership roles are great but I want to sell too.
