I’ve come to the realization that I’ve made my life more difficult than necessary. Most of the advice I’ve gotten from people I trust (mostly my mom), whether solicited or not, has been accurate. I hear the words and they make sense but I have to make the opposite choices to finally agree. Do small firms/boutiques really have better hours than Big Law? A recruiter told me I should still expect to bill 2000 hrs at a boutique, but if that’s the case, why take the pay cut?

Plaintiff side question - comp is base plus % of fees. Firm has non equity split % with associate working on case. This normal for a non equity partner? Normal associate comp is full % when working with an equity partner.

Venting… I had a PC reach out last week for services (commercial real estate) who proceeded to tell me that their project is going to make me the “gold standard” , so rich and etc. further they wanted me to send them a plan of everything needed for all the phases of development and an estimated cost. I tested the waters (currently at $105 base)and got offered a position making $125k base +10% comm up to $500k in atty fees that goes to 15% after half a mil in fees. The work is in first party plaintiff (same field im in now). My boss is desperate. He offered to up my base from 105 to 150 and up my EOY bonus to 10k. 200k base salary guaranteed next year in writing if I stay & named partner. some equity the year after.l if I stay.
