I don’t think you need to necessarily prove yourself to them. The job market took a major hit last year, talent pool was super saturated, people had to settle for whatever was available to keep the lights on, no shame in that. Sounds like the company knows they lucked out hiring someone with skills higher than their pay rate/title. If they’re about to pile on more work and responsibilities on you bc they know you can handle it, and you go along with it to prove yourself first, it may open the door for them to take advantage of you. I think you need to have a conversation with them sooner rather than later. If you don’t, it’ll go like this: - Bust your butt for a bit and sell a ton of work for them and save them a ton of money. - You get to a point where you think you’ve proven yourself and you bring up the title/raise convo. They knew this would happen and delayed it as long as possible and prepped an answer to keep you chasing a carrot on a stick. - They say something like “we don’t have the budget to give raises yet, check again in a few months I’m sure you’ll get it then...” or “hmm, we can’t promote you to that level just yet, you’ve been at your current title for x amount of time, plus we already have so and so in that role...” - They drag it out more and more, and you move to a shop where you’re appreciated and properly compensated... or you’ve got a hard time finding a gig of your caliber bc recruiters look at your resume w an extended title downgrade and make snap assumptions... or another company sees that you’re capable of more, gives you a slight title bump and salary, and moves the carrot on a stick a little closer. Make your expectations crystal clear, take some time to write down your experience, the circumstances that you took the job, and the differences in responsibilities/title/pay between your current role and what they’re about to have you do. It’s just business, nothing personal, keep the ball in your court, and start talking to other companies just in case (lots of places hiring right now). Good luck!

Keep at it, clearly ur wiser and bring much to the table.

I think you should given you explain to new leadership the circumstances you were hired under

You should certainly discuss new comp for new role. Drive your own career; you’re at the wheel!

I realized most of my anxiety or depression stems from a lack of career fulfillment. I recently started a new position and things were going great till they restructured my group and laid off a few on my team. Now I'm always looking over my shoulder and too concerned about screwing up. In the past, I have been laid off & I can't help reading too much in to every single email. My therapist made me aware of this but I'm looking for coping tools that someone in my situation has found useful. HELP!

Didn't get promoted and the more I think about it, the more upset I become. Had a good year, helped fill in gaps, took on roles to help lead internal initiatives, led/managed teams to success, and worked looonnnggg hours to the point of burnout. Leaders also know how much I was working. I didn't expect a promotion because I had low expectations for my firm, but I'm still pretty bitter. Should I ask why? Was I too naive and ended up giving too much? Or is this a reflection of my work/value?
