Need some advice here.I am a fullstack developer with 5 yoe in Angular and Python. My aim is to crack FAANG companies. Now I got an offer from HSBC in a credit risk model monitoring role using Python. It is close to a data engineer role.
My question is that will it be a good idea to shift from development role to a model monitoring role if I want to move to FAANG in the future even for an ML role?Or does FAANG not prefer people who are not in core development roles?Amazon Google Microsoft Adobe Citi Barclays Bank of America

Take it and see if you can delay your start
Also see if position can start off remote

I would do this. Having a job when many people are looking is going to be really nice. No guarantees that there will be an opening in 4 months.
I suggest you save that four months of double pay
You need to go full steam ahead looking for a job. Focus on getting a job you like, that gives you opportunity at a company and culture you like.
Worry about start dates can happen after you have an offer that is right for you.
2x this. Need to have an offer first. Worry about accepting after you get it. Good luck!
Take the job, but ask for additional time off for relaxation and rest. Tell them your willing to start at a later date, such as after the July 4 holiday or something. You wont have PTO accrued, so use that as a reason. If they really want you they will understand. Just be up front and honest, but reasonable in the request. My husband was a Crowe lay off, similar situation. But took an additional 4 weeks off before starting new role.
Totally agree with SAM1! And congrats on the job offer!
I did also want to add the following if it helps your decision in any way:
I was also laid off at Crowe after a daily 10 year grind and had no idea how much of a break I really needed, until it was forced upon me. These past two months have been some of the most productive of my life and have allowed me to refocus my attention and efforts on what I really want out of a career. I would encourage anyone receiving severance, PTO payout, etc to see it as a temporary gift and take advantage of it. Good luck!
Side question - audit was let go too at Deloitte? Thought just tax consulting advisory
Audit was less impacted than tax or advisory.
If it’s a position you’re genuinely interested in, why not?
Most Corp offices will be remote for a while. Also, even when we “return to work” there will be some flexibility with remote working going forward. I say don’t let that deter you from accepting the offer or not.
4 months of pay? As a senior?! I want to get laid off
That’s including unused PTO.
what level are you before leave? Audit senior 2?
Is 4 months the normal severance that people from Deloitte received?
No. It’s a combination of severance, salary continuation, and more than five weeks of accrued PTO.
You are in a good position. I would try a delayed start date and take a three to four week vacation to see the national parks using your severance. I would bank the remaining difference. I think most corporate office towers will be working remotely until September. If you are high risk, I am sure that they make an accommodation for you. If you are not high risk, I would face your fears and go into the office.
Yes
May I ask if you got the invite from their internal referral? I hear They provided a PDF about next career or something.
It was a referral from a friend who knew about the position.
How long were you at Deloitte. I was at RSM for less than a year and got 1 month.
Tac. Their version of cmaas. A friend who was hired into tas /fdd was gone in 4 months. They cut senior people who had a low personal net margin. (Billings less salary). They didn’t care to give any ramp up time or coaching.
Go ahead and interview to see what is out there!
