Was standing outside my office on the phone when some random lady came up to me to go inside the office and asked if I'm with the front desk. Waiting for the day people don't think I'm the receptionist, paralegal, or assistant. Ya know, anything but an attorney.

My wife is a dentist and people assume she’s a hygienist. She’s also a veteran and when people see our USAA credit card they thank me for my service instead (I’m not a vet). I would imagine a lifetime of that would be very frustrating.

I see these posts a lot. Does this really bother y’all that much? It seems like a harmless mistake. And it insinuates there’s something wrong with being a receptionist, paralegal, or assistant.

Tone is so hard in written form so know I’m asking out of curiosity, not accusation.

A1 do you really not see the difference between simply mistaking someone for a lower-level employee and people assuming you're a lower-level employee because of your gender?

I’m a female POC, this happens to me all the time. I remember in college when I got pulled over by a cop on campus at my very prestigious school and the cop asked me if I went to the junior college down the street. I’m still not over it.

Some days I’d rather be at the front desk ….

But to your point if I’m grocery shopping people think I’m the manager. So who knows anymore.

Having a day and lashing out 😞

I saw this a lot too when I worked in a hospital. The female doctors were always called “nurse”. So rude

What is a good ratio of billable hours to total hours?

Obviously the "ideal" is 100%, but as the junior attorney at a small firm, I'm do the guy taking all the prospective client cold calls, and it can seriously cut into my day.

My goal has been to spend at least 75% of my time on billable work. Reasonable?
