Was wondering if I can have some advice on starting in HR. I got my BBA last year with an Honours in HR (Canada), and am currently working a contract Document Controller/Admin Assistant job. Trying to transfer to a job more in my field before my contract ends, and I would really appreciate some advice. Also, seems like lots of places are hesitant to offer a permanent job to a candidate who has not had permanent residency yet (me), but a permanent job offer is one of the requirements for it.

I’d recommend finding HR Assistant roles and working your way up or in house recruiting roles that have other HR responsibilities

Hi! Networking is key. If you have membership to the HR association in your province, you can attend their chapter events. Chapters usually have networking events. Many also offer mentorship programs to students and advertise opportunities that are available to new grads. Recruitment might be a way to get your foot in the door too. Look for Sourcer or recruitment coordinator roles. Re: the lack of PR issue, unfortunately, though employers aren’t allowed to ask about citizenship status, many still do so you may continue to face some barriers there. However, with your education and networking, I’m sure you will overcome it. All the best in your search!

I have a friend I used to be close with but we’ve grown apart over the years. She hasn’t worked in several years yet supports herself in NYC, focusing most of her energy on dating. Only wealthy men. Recently she had a fling w a guy for a couple months and got pregnant. They had a huge fight and broke up, she was distraught, and I impulsively offered to fly to NY for her abortion so she wouldn’t have to be alone. Then I found out she basically blackmailed him to pay her almost $100k (contd)

I am a nurse currently working in an ICU (overall 2 years total RN experience) and completely burned out from bedside nursing and the crappy pay. I’m interested in nurse consulting but have no idea where to start or if I am even qualified for such a position. Anybody have experience with this?

I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences, a Bachelors in nursing, and currently in a BSN-to-DNP program… no experience in consulting, just clinical experience

Are accounting firms allowed to pay overtime? My firm's HR director said accounting firms used to be able to, but some government department made it illegal and forced salary to be increased to cover it. I may have misunderstood, but is there an industry that requires exempt employees?

Additional Posts in Human Resources

Our company is considering hiring offshore technical resources. Can anyone recommend a company that can help us determine where it makes most sense, start up costs, process, legal/tax, timeline, etc.? We’re not sure where to start. We are a smaller company, probably looking to start with 5 to 15 resources, then potentially grow from there

Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)

Does anyone have a format or a shareable method to review top leadership? I'm currently on short term disability (but not on FMLA). Prior to leave, I started interviewing. I received multiple offers... Haven't accepted one yet, but more than likely will. It's going to be a while until I'm able to get back to work. I'd like to be able to tell my mgr/team now that I'm leaving so they can prepare. I also know they can terminate me while I'm on STD and not protected by FMLA. If I give notice and they decide to terminate me on the spot, do I lose my STD benefits?

Hello everyone! I am looking for advice. I am a C&B Team lead ( about 15 years of experience) but all my experience was in Russia. Now I got married and moved to UK , plus we have got a baby in 2019 so now I am looking for a job in UK having 3 years of career break. Although, I am getting CIPD lvl 7 diploma this year. I am not ready for team leader's role now . So my question is about HR area, where could I find a job with my only Russian experience? HR generalist, C&B analyst, HR BP, recruiter?

Does anyone have a favorite tool or platform for creating hiring dashboards? Or excel/Google Sheets suggestions?

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

How did yall go about finding your place in HR? Recruiting has been OK but it’s just not my thing. looking to see what transferable skills I’ve obtained that will allow me to move about and hear from others who have hopped around.

I live in Boston. I left my company of 8 years in 12/21 for a new HR manager position at a competitor company which I started 1/22. This company offered me $100k. The work is exciting, I am the HRBP for 20 accounts. I am the only and main face of HR. However parking in Boston is $25 per day and we only get 1 WFH day. I am very popular in LinkedIn (how I got this job). A Recruiter contacted me about a $120k position which I interviewed for and got an offer yesterday. More details below…

I am in the process of finishing up my MBA but considering also getting my SPHR or PHR cert. Is it even worth it or a waste of time and money?

My team has made tremendous efforts during the pandemic to ensure the safety of all facilities and people in our region as we resume in-office activity. Predicated on confidentiality, my colleague went to HR with negative feedback re a specific leader’s flexibility with the *mandatory* PPE protocol. The HR Manager went directly to the leader and gave the feedback along w my colleagues name. Since that day she’s been heavily “taxed.” HR has a responsibility to protect anonymity. How to handle?

Most of us probably work in HR because we love this job. But what about working in HR do you hate the most?

I have my MSHRM; which I got before I started working in HR, and a PHR but with this new HRM role I'm thinking of getting an HR Certification in Strategic Management. It is very costly. Has anyone taken any of these Certification programs? Is it worth it?

Mentee of mine is considering two verbal offers. I suspect she’s been under paid for several years. Both are Band 5 roles in NJ. One is a Business Support Manager, the other is a Risk Manager. Any ideas on what the pay range is?
