If money were no issue, what would you be doing?
I was laid off during Deloitte‘s mass layoff in July of last year. I have worked as an independent contractor since and projects haven’t been consistent at the client I’m working for. I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.

Helping people is noble and awesome but 9 years of medical school & residency before making a decent salary? Hard pass 🙅♀️
Going into medicine shouldn’t be about the immediate financial rewards. Like PwC1 said, it’s delayed gratification. The career rewards you much later in life, albeit, with job security, respect, and financial benefits. Most docs make north of 200-250K and there seems to always be a perpetual shortage of physicians in the USA. Rural docs are a hot commodity now too. Pay in some small towns is incredible for certain specialties.
Yeah I have a friend, first year residency, is working 12-16 hr shifts 6-7 days/week, they are usually nightshifts, she’s in the ER so lots of COVID exposure, and her salary is... (drumroll please!)... $63k. By the time she’s done and making the “real money” I have no doubt that I will STILL be making more than her with just a bachelors degree and having mostly worked 50 hr weeks or less. Fuuuuuuuck medicine.
Never too late, life is too short to have regrets :) Just remember, specialities like neurosurgery require lifelong dedication and commitment. Your profession becomes your livelihood, coming before anything else.
That shows awesome. Really hits home. Make sure to watch the CoVID episode
