Wfo: Indulging in office politics, gossiping about co-workers, bootlicking managers, making friends who backstab you while work, Bad food in cafetaria, Late night work, skipping meals and eating irregularly and hours of commuting back and forth to office struck in the traffic.

No thanks I would rather spend days working from home happily along with my family eating healthy food at regular intervals, spending quality time with family and friends without having to give a damn to office politics, awkward greetings & smile, listening to some gossips and rumours about other co-workers.

Well experiences might be subjective I would rather wfh for the rest of my life travelling accross the world and full filling my dreams working in hill stations, beaches etc., wherever there is WiFi and keep travelling on weekends and work on weekdays without having to worry about corporate etiquette, politics, gossips as such.

Cool there is no us vs them here, it's not as if people will come to road and start protesting. I might have over exaggerated things while writing for the fun, no pun intended.
Don't take all things seriously everyone have their thaughts weather to wfh, wfo or hybrid. In 2 yrs lot of things have been changed which we would have never imagined anything like this will ever happen, So if you say things like there is no doubt again things should go back to normal I'm saying this is the new normal and you better get used to it. If any organisation calls it's employees to office then some people will definitely put their papers and find a company which provides the flexibility to work remotely. If organisations needs to keep their attrition rate in check then they should start providing the flexibility for the employees to choose and not mandate and say that everyone has to come to office regardless of whatever reasons.

I echo similar views. I believe people should be given the option of coming to office or working from their home location. Several studies have shown increase in productivity for a good number of people in WFH model. Everyone has different circumstances; some want to badly be in office as they have got fatigued at home while there are some people who want to be closer to their families as there parents might be left alone or they might be having some helath issues too.

Having said this, I believe working from office shoukd be an option and not a compulsion. Even hybrid model requires a person to travel 1000+ km, set up a home, leave behind family which is difficult. I feel unless quality of work is not hampered, people who want to work from home should be given so.

Had there not been COVID, you would have never asked this question. Everyone leaves their hometown and come to office locations. We left our home long back to be in office location and this is our life now. Things will have to go back to normal, no doubt about it. The more you fight it or more you deny, it will be tough for you. I agree sitting in the comfort of your home and saving all travel, accommodation expenses is sweet but it is not there to stay for long. So accept the reality.

OP has 7+ years of experience. Lives just 200km from Bangalore. Can’t even afford a weekly travel to hometown? Everyone would love to stay with parents and loved ones and spend time. But you can’t change the way organisations work. Hybrid is just the start , things will be much closer to before covid soon. What you don’t realise is governments rely on IT sector and the population there. They drive a lot of other things than just their office work. When govt starts pressurising companies to bring back employees, you can’t avoid that. The only way is changing firms. As you have lot of work ex I am sure you can find a full time remote job quite easily. There is no point in trashing Deloitte here. Networking or boot licking whatever you can call it, that is one of the core fundamentals of Deloitte. If Punit Renjen can start as an Analyst and move all the way up to CEO , then why young folks should be wary of the Deloitte culture? For everyone there is something that will work out for them. You can find your future path too. All the best , but there is absolutely no point in pointing fingers at Deloitte and trying to suggest they are the villain of your story . Good luck mate !

like

people who don't understand the importance of networking in a consulting firm(and no, it does not mean brown nosing) are the same one's who cry wolf when their case is not represented properly.

The thing is, if you don't want to return to hybrid, look for another opportunity which offers you permanent wfh instead of whining about it. There are a lot of graduated new hires who would kill to experience office life and culture, make way for them.

likeupliftinghelpful

People who are here saying what is networking for clearly haven't been on bench for long
I m a freshy i might not hv much experience but in past 1 month i hv networked with 6 manegers 6 leads and they know my name and my potential i don't hv to worry about rolling off and sitting on bench coz i ll be able to walk up to any of those people and they ll provide me an opportunity or point me to one
Whereas before joining office physically i only knew my current maneger and had no idea what i would do after i m rolled off the current project

I completely agree with you, I am in the same situation. When I asked about this, my SM told me that you need to return to "live the office life". He also mentioned that you can come to office everyday as well instead of 2 or 3 days per week.

I am a manager and i am the only person in the team in bangalore, still i need to come to office. I cooked and took care of kid while i completed my work in the nights. I love to come back to office and take a break from home. I have to make alternate arrangements for my kid, there is none to feed her and be around when she is back from school. The very thought is scary. Working mothers face bigger problems boss…

Story of my life and i jus don have a place to whine about it… sorry to start this back and forth folks! Thanks for your suggestions/support.

Things will not go back to normal anytime soon. COVID has changed a lot of things in last 2 years and we all will remain affected till we have COVID around us. Companies need to be flexible on this part and should not force employee to come back to office. Else the great resignation will continue to rise.

like

Although OP is so dissatisfied with decision to go back to office, abusing people whose opinion does not match his/her opinion, saying he will leave and not interested in coming back to ofc, STILL STILL he/she would be waiting for hike and bonus from the same firm whose leadership he does not believe in. "Jis thaali mei khate h ussi mei chedh karte h", goes very well for OP.

like

Without you coming back to the city, how would the real estate grow? Don't you care about the cab drivers, Ola, Uber, bounce, Zomato, swiggy and dunzo? Without you consuming the toxic air, food, how would the clinics and hospitals benefit? Without you refueling your vehicle and spending hours in traffic, how could the fossil fuel retailers and mechanics grow? About your parents, you could appoint a caretaker back home and contribute to rural employment. Don't be selfish, think about the ecosystem, corporate giants and politicians who are probably dealing with poverty and malnutrition. 🥺

Remote works fine for people who can work independently and are self driven.

I have seen many juniors struggle too in remote settings and they are not able to make connection and seek help. Office setting would have helped them.

I have mixed opinion on this. As an IC i managed fine with wfh and still could network with colleagues from all locations.

But as I move to new organization with new leadership role, it's important to connect and meet people personally.

I am an introvert and see this as an opportunity to come out of my comfort zone.

like

Yes and i think we should strive for Change instead of sticking to same routine.
COVID allowed us to look for change where wfh gave me opportunity to connect with my family and stay close to nature.

We humans crave for change. Permanent wfh also will become monotonous and has its own drawbacks.

I would really like a setting where i could work from anywhere for few months followed by wfo.

And out of sight out of mind is reality, those coming to office will have edje is getting better growth. We are humans and personal interaction matter more than we can imagine

Prople here are a bit salty justifying the organization's decision and asking the person how they managed pre-covid. Well, the biggest point is it literally took a freakin' global pandemic to make us understand how productive and lucrative wfh model actually is unless u r working actively in the field. Corporations are calling people back only because they have invested into the infrastructure and clearly give two dimes about employees' mental and physical well-being.

like

Dude not many companies buy the land and build offices like cognizant. Most of them lease space, doubt they would just want to continue paying for space even if wfh is better for them.

Same situation for me. I need to leave my mother alone in my hometown. I joined 2 years back and it's wfh for me since then. It's pretty good spending time with my mother childhood friends. Hope they make it flexible. Let's pray for each other. That's what we can do

like

And which companies are offering that? Very few. Also it isn’t just about networking. I learnt the most by sitting around with other colleagues. That helped me do better and grow. By living under a rock, you will be obsolete sooner than average.
Hybrid works better than going to office all 5 days a week because the travel time is a lot now and 5 days is an overkill

Same case with me brother i live in uttarakhand and have to go bangalore where as my manager is in mumbai and team members in pune and hyderabad.
What's the point of going office still need to work on Teams.

Do what ever you want man, do double but don't trouble your parents/ mental peace/ Health... There will always debate on Remote vs Office working.. So instead of requesting my old company to give me relocation I just simply switched to a company which was near me hometown.
You should do the same.Because asking your company to give you work from home just not gonna work.

I did the same thing…initially when i joined in EY, my project was in banagalore and they moved to kochi.. after several update they did not move me to banagalore.. i searched job n moved to Deloitte banagalore..

I like wfh. U know Tcs is paying sooooo lavishhhhhhly that I'm soooooo proud of my salary. Atleast I'm able to save some money due to wfh. Atleast I'm not paying for tea, even there also I'm saving money. Afterall I'm not our CEO who gets free chai.
