Help fund a first-generation college student’s education! Tons of nonprofits in this space. DM if you want specific suggestions
Yes!
just pay taxes
Supporting taxes won't do anything, that won't translate to policy. He/she can participate in some sort of foundation or monetarily support organizations that accomplish the mission
Beyond monetary donations, you can also mentor students from low-income backgrounds or sit on non profit boards
Fantastic idea!
You can donate to need-based scholarships at your alma mater
I received max pell grant - i dont advertise it but i have to roll my eyes when people assume i had it easy just cause im white and male
I mean you probably did have it way let’s be real. Without knowing you I’m
Sure youre able to find mentors and sponsors to guide you to this industry and in this industry
Hello fellow Pell grant recipient! As much as I would like to help others who are struggling to afford school my parents gave up so much to make sure I got a good education so they are getting my extra income first. I hope to be in a good enough position to help my parents retire one day.
This is my biggest internal struggle, honestly. Love the mentoring ideas... non-monetary
Contribute to the scholarship fund at your university; you can even set up your own.
Pay your taxes.
Mentor.
I couldn’t have gotten to where I am if not for help of those loans as well as so many kind people, who took a chance on a poor kid and believed in me. I can never repay them for what it made me, the privileged life I have and my children will have. Giving back is important. Good on you, OP.
Fellow receiver of max Pell Grants as well.
This sums up my advice perfectly.
Dude I grew up low income as well and received pell grants. You don’t owe anybody sh*t. You’re paying back through your taxes anyway. No need to feel guilty friend
Um, you’d feel guilty if you wanted to give back but didn’t 🧐
You can mentor young professionals. I’d volunteer to become your mentee 🙋♀️
20 years ago my wife and I wanted to do something similar. We endowed a permanent scholarship at my wife’s state university. Between my corporate match at the time, and the state had a match, it cost somewhere around $10k. We targeted inner city, underprivileged. We get thank you notes most every year from the recipient ( I assume the school pushes this).
Fund your children’s education and build wealth for the next few generations. Instill wealth generation in your children so that every generation can do better.
Honestly, the work you do is contributing to the economy. It was money well invested in you! Kudos for being the kind of person who deeply cares about these things. Support your community, and be a great spouse and parent (as applicable). You are doing great already. I also like the endowment idea above!!
Look at CollegePossible.org
These are all such helpful responses, and it’s so nice to hear about other Pell Grant recipients. Thanks all!
Pay it forward - donate to a school that means something to you, create a scholarship fund, or put money away for your future children (assuming you want them) to go to school, so that grants and scholarships can be prioritized for people in need.
