We all know the economy isn’t the absolute best right now - what is everyone doing for Christmas shopping this year? Is pay enough to afford the holidays or is everyone a little tight right now? We traveled to see family for Thanksgiving so we’re keeping Christmas very low key

Christmas is the only holiday I look forward to so I kept the other holidays low-key to be able to save up for the end of the year!

I just want a low key Christmas. I don't mind being invited to potlucks. No shopping for me. I have way too much stuff.

Agreed. Plus mass consumerism is damaging the environment with all the junk ppl buy, ship overnight, and then return or discard or don't even really care for. It's really bad...

I drove during this thanksgiving and my family fed me, so I didn’t spend too much money. But I till feel bad about Christmas spending…

I'm keeping it low key this year. It's a bit too crazy right now with prices to be doing what I usually do. I'll wait for things to calm down.

Agreed. Usually companies just try to capitalize on the masses, deals aren't that great but people binge shop. In the past is end up with so many boxes everywhere and most end up needing to be returned bc they didn't meet expectations. It was insane and I want to avoid all that this year

Likely low key and just spend time with family and simple gifts for kids

I did buy some stuff in sale during Black Friday for my kids (i.e., a $38 bicycle for my 3 year old) and use the Capital One app to automatically search coupon codes. But my spouse and I opted to do a small gift under $20 and just save money for a future vacation.

That’s an awesome idea! Sometimes experiences are more worth it than gifts in my opinion

Best tech lingos?

So I was on a personal leave from my job for about 3 months. I was able to lose about 20 pounds during the leave. I saw a fellow co worker today and they said they weren’t sure if it was me or not. Then asked if had a weightloss surgery.... How would you respond if you were in my shoes?

Tips for someone not currently working in tech but striving to be? I’ve submitted hundreds of applications and get a few bites here and there, but can’t get the thought of not having tech experience out of recruiters heads. Any help is appreciated.

What is it about Palantir that gets people so excited? I think they are in a good niche but it doesn’t seem like their tech is necessarily a differentiator. I think that there is a lot of value in both their data and their relationships but I don’t know how they have leverage these. I like the company and like the leadership but am a little bit confused about the valuation. I bought PLTR at $10 and am considering buying more but would like to better understand the story.

Hi all, anyone looking for Senior Tech Consultant in the US?

Desperately trying to transfer from Canada to be closer to my family, but having no success, even if I am constantly flagged as a top performer.

I'm the only woman on my team in the lab, and all my male colleagues told me today they just assumed I would handle getting our boss's Christmas gift and card together. They thought once I had everything they could just sign the card, and that would be it. What's the best way to explain that this isn't cool without coming off naggy? If we drew sticks or something I'd be fine, but this feels lowkey sexist. Thoughts?

What, if anything, can be done to increase and encourage female representation in hired STEM positions? For example, should female and other minority employees have input on your companies yearly class of interns or new hires? Do you think women are underrepresented in STEM because of societal standards or because we have to fight harder to get hired? Having a bit of a debate with a coworker over solutions.

Hi all! I’m an engineer working in the global health space and I’m finding it’s a small, small pool. I also just found out that a new hire (male, also an engineer) is the reason I got a raise after ~5 years of stagnancy. I love my job, but it’s time to move on. Anyone who’s worked in nonprofit spaces - did you stay? Did you switch to consulting/government/etc or go corporate? I’ve been applying without much response, and I’m debating whether a PMP very or masters is going to be necessary.

As proud as my family is of my career and accomplishments, I think my mother would honestly be happier or just as happy if I had no degree, a husband, and several children (I'm 29). She doesn't expressly say it but the "don't you get lonely?" comments speak for themselves.
