Anyone else tire of the “plant mom” and “dog dad” me too conversation? It seems to be more frequent. For example, company says, “Parents, please share pictures of working from home with your kids during Covid” for a diversity and inclusion project. Undoubtedly someone responds, “what about my plant babies? 🤣”. I don’t want sympathy but I find it childish. Just give us the courtesy of understanding that plants and pets are not the same. Stop “me too’ing”

DEI hires don’t address the issue. We know they are powerless positioned designed to give the impression of ‘doing something’ rather than grooming and promoting the diversity under your own roof. There’s a problem when your clients are more progressive and demanding of change than you are, agencies.
I’m still trying to process seeing an agency exec well known for dismissing and ignoring POC held up as an exemplary diversity champion for women at the 3% Conference.
With all of the rhetoric around Diversity in consulting, can someone explain why 13 or 14 out of 14 newly promoted Managing Directors in KPMG Advisory are white men? Also, how long until someone from upper management flags this post to keep everything silent?

I’m a partner at a small firm looking to lateral. Many firms that were beyond my reach a year ago are now eager to pick me up. Firms that I should be selling myself to are instead selling their firm to me. (And I am a very confident person; no imposter syndrome here.) Is there some larger diversity push going on? Is it hard for bigger firms to retain female partners? Curious what the market is.

Potentially stupid but serious question alert: I want to move my money from checking to an index fund (e.g., SP500 type) to build passively vs. it just sitting in my bank. My questions arise around how liquid is this (e.g., if I need to make a large purchase and take a portion of the investment) and what are tax implications for short term withdrawals/selling (e.g., I invest 10k, sell 2k to make a purchase, does this actually help financially or does short term taxes /other negate any benefits)?
