Well they can actually fix infrastructure that’s crumbling or they can try to appease Baby Trumpy and his crazy base. To anyone outside the GOP that’s a pretty easy decision.

I am a D supporter. Here’s my take.
Regarding your first question - Trump couldn’t get anything done for the simple reason that he was rude, stupid, impatient, immature and someone who made things INCREDIBLY personal with his political opponents through his constant barrage of BS. And more than all that, he behaved as if the Democrats had no voter base to cater to. If you are going to ask the Democrat-led US House for funding for the wall which the D base ABSOLUTELY despises, then you need to offer the Democratic leaders something to take back to their base so that they can drive a bargain e.g. DACA. But Trump wanted only what he wanted - and it doesn’t work that way. You can’t run with the hare and hunt with the hound simultaneously.
Regarding the second question - I think it’s fine. Bipartisanship is a good thing in vaccum but we are at a moment which requires big and bold vision and not the lowest common denominator between both parties. As long as Biden/Pelosi/Schumer are clear that a second reconciliation bill also has to pass which meets that moment, I think we can get behind both the bipartisan and reconciliation bill.

Honestly, it's good politics for Republicans. This was going to pass through reconciliation anyway, so they get some good press and a few pet projects for back home.
This shows that Mitch McConnell is losing some steam as obstructionist-in-chief. If he still had the juice he had back in the Obama years, he wouldn't have allowed this.

I would give it some time - Rs, including McConnell and Graham, are already getting angry publicly that Pres Biden has promised to condition signing the bipartisan bill on the reconciliation bill being passed. I wouldn’t be too surprised if this deal falls through and everything gets passed through reconciliation eventually.
Looks like there is agreement on a framework. But that's not a guarantee that it will get the 10 Republican votes in the Senate. Somehow I feel the chief obstructor has a few tricks up his sleeve.

It doesn't need any Republican votes at all because it's going to pass through reconciliation. These 5 republicans are just jumping on a winner.
