I think one important thing you need to consider is outdoors vs warm weather. There aren’t too many places that can match outdoors of SEA and be warm and in budget. You’ll have to compromise Arizona comes to mind, but it’s not the same kind of outdoors. Sedona and places have good hikes but no real mountains like SEA ATL does NOT have outdoors so if you’re set on it I’d look at something else. Bay Area has outdoors and is warm but is not in your price range Denver has great outdoors but isn’t warm. San Diego has great weather, decent outdoors but out of price range LA is warm, could be decently priced, and has OK outdoors a bit far away Texas is warm, affordable but don’t really know how much outdoors it has. Charlotte has all 3, but I wouldn’t gamble on the outdoors.

Come to Houston- great weather, diverse culture, lots of stuff to do outdoors, amazing food scene, and CHEAP real estate. For $400k you’ll get a great place

Atlanta, GA has all that and more

Can’t believe this is the second mention of Atlanta! I’d literally never want to move there

to another city. Please suggest some options. Additional details: we are both into outdoors, prefer warm weather, currently own a home in Seattle that we will sell, will want to buy a home in the new city (3bed 2bath, 2500 sqft preferably under 800k), prefer living closer to downtown and enjoy entertaining friends (unable to make friends in Seattle)

Where are you originally from?

is this a question or a statement

like

There is a lot to this question, do you want to stay out west, where do the grandparents live, this is more important then you realize now, you have time to make your decision.

like

My suggestion, be selfish now and live where you guys want to live. Approach it as you are not making a decision based on having kids soon. You will have plenty of time to make changes when it matters. If you connect with friends who have kids the same age stay where you are.

Texas - Austin or Houston. Or Denver though colder.

Charlotte NC. Now in the top 15 by population and can get a great house in the city within your budget. Fun town and easy to meet new people.

Would they adjust your salary?

Don’t know yet

Go to Arizona. Good schools, great weather, LCOL, and outdoor activities.

Except for the fact that it’s unbearably hot 8 months out of the year

PDX

For context as someone in Seattle but not from here and also familiar with the freeze - where are you from?

Atlanta has everything you would need in a city, has warm weather, does not rain much, and it is very cheap relative to other cities it’s size.

I started last October as a junior (moved over after 3 years in B4 accounting). Have worked nearly every day since then except for the occasional Sunday when I decided to blow off work I probably should have been doing. I desperately need a vacation, but have no clue what that even looks like with Covid, WFH, and Biglaw life in general. It also feels super hard to take a break because it seems like no one in my group ever does. Not sure whether I'm posting to gripe or seeking advice...

How much of the current WFH measures would stick permanently in our working culture? With almost a full year of remote working, the sentiment seems to have shifted to waiting til the day we can work in the office again. Will clients reimburse travel as much as they did before? Will companies keep the same amount of office space or transition to a leaner and more just-in-time approach?

I recently met someone in another country where I’m working remote. He asked me to be his girlfriend but I’m moving in about a month. He doesn’t want to do distance unless I move back (which is an option with remote work, but visas are tricky). I really like him but don’t know if I’d be able to move back here between work/borders/etc. Do I keep seeing him and just try to enjoy the now? A part of me just feels so sad about leaving and breaking up. Idk if it’s worth it.

I’m a 2nd year civil litigation associate at a mid-sized firm in south Florida. My dream has always been to go in house but was dissuaded by law school professors telling me not to. I’m at a crossroads now because I’m OVER the billing, but my boss and direct team is quite possibly the most amazing and supportive group. My boss is always willing to let us work remote or take vacations. My question is, is the grass greener on the other side? Should I go in house now or wait another 3 years?

Anyone have a micromanager boss? I’m at the point where mine texts me when I get up to go to the shitter to find out where I am. don’t work from home, don’t miss deadlines or meetings.. 🤷‍♀️

Confession - I don't want to go back to office. I'm happy working from home and find no solid reason in stepping back. I hope the flexi work culture allows permanent WFH - I don't have a "good enough" reason, but I don't want to go (isn't this good enough?) It's been 1.5 years now, too comfortable to step out from my PJs to jeans.

Anyone looking for an apartment with a den for WFH? I locked in a great pandemic deal on a 1 bed + den on the Dorchester/Southie border til next Sept and now have to move for work. Looking for someone to take over my lease. Prices have gone up on their website but they didn’t raise my rent when I resigned ($400 below their rates for newbies at the moment). DM for pics/deets.

What cities in the US can someone get a lot of nature/green space but also some of the big city feel? My job just went fully remote and I’m debating on leaving my home town(Tampa). I’ve lived in Denver before. Loved it but felt it was lacking diversity and some city aspects. Any recommendations for a straight single 28M?

I’m really burned out by WFH and plan to take a week off. Don’t want to go out too much yet so will likely just stay at home. The challenge: I have no idea what I’m doing with several days at home - maybe just binge watch Netflix? Any ideas?

Is it worth putting down the deposit to secure something in case I don’t get into any others? My thinking is Darden with scholarship + interviews at others should be a good sign for the others, but curious if others think potentially losing a couple grand in the long run is worth the security.
