Read the results of the Condé Nast internship lawsuit and you’ll pay your interns but legally it is technically possible to have an unpaid intern if the primary beneficiary of the internship is solely for the intern. https://www.businessnewsdaily.com/15161-are-unpaid-internships-legal.html
But Id still pay them haha
A way to get around this is if the intern receives school credit
That’s not exactly true. If they do any work that contributes to the business you have to pay them at least minimum wage.
And agree with Deloitte. The only other time you don’t have to pay is if it’s for a bona fide nonprofit.
The intern has to be the primary beneficiary of an unpaid internship. There’s an FSLA test on the DOL website for unpaid internships. It’s definitely a gray area and probably worth the small investment if intern is not the sole beneficiary.
