We are thinking of implementing a policy on flexible bank holidays but not sure if we have all bases covered. Any advice?

Not sure I understand the question - but will share my prior company had 6 fixed paid holidays and 4 floating/flexible holidays - with 8 hrs that was accrued on the first of each quarter. EEs could have a cap of 32 hours banked to encourage them to use the time off.

like

Thanks for the feedback. We were discussing the possibility of having floating bank holidays to include some of the other religious celebrations but wasn't sure what the process would look like; whether to have EEs make a request for alternative bank holidays or to have some fixed with a few flexible options.

like

I think having people make requests is fine - everyone celebrates/observes differently so this way they don't feel tied to the days

like

We normally just include the holiday name and use descriptive info to fix its date. It's fine even if not all the bases are covered, we follow-up a memo a week or two before the event takes place.

like

What type of policy do you have in mind? Like floating holidays? Can you provide more context?

We recently switched over to an inclusive holiday approach. No calendar specific holidays. We give 10/days per year for employees to use for holidays or personal days of significance. Anyone new joining accrues 2 days/month capped at 10 days annually (use it or lose it). We have a flexible culture so no formal request/approval process. Just communication with their manager and EE’s are responsible for entering their time off.

Nice ending to the week.

Guys!! Off topic!! I found this amazing travels service provided by Karnataka govt!! KSTDC tours and travels.
At a very affordable cost, they're are providing trips. Initially i was shocked and was sceptical about the services since its govt one. But they're really professional.
If you are planning to go with family for short trips...2-5 days..u can try this!!
With friends I won't suggest, but with family happily u can choose 😀😀

I was very successful as an internaional sales exec at a startup for 15 years before we were bought by a large publicly traded company. The culture shift was dramatic, as was the way that I was expected to work. I was laid off a tortuous 3 years after the buyout.

While I was in some ways relieved (put me out of my misery!) I spiralled pretty hard and after a while started working PT jobs, gig type stuff, etc. while I figured things out, and healed from burnout.

Do people really give up their personal life because of busy season?

I don't have a long tenure in this career as a senior, but I've never seen that much people actually working on weekends more than half of the day.

I've personally never worked more than 4 hours on weekends, but I always managed to get 55~65 hours packed on my timesheet.

Are people just saving up work for weekends?

Need some advice. During May of 2021 an operations manager and an hourly Hr employee started a relationship while the ops manager was married. We had supervisors give us pictures of those two kissing at workFast forward they are now engaged and getting married. The HR worker does not work here anymore since July 2021. Is it too late to investigate the ops manager for misconduct ? The ops manager has worked here for 15 years and is super valuable, the operation literally can not run without him.

I’ve noticed in the past year no upper management guidance or vision. I work within a division and no town hall meetings, no communications from upper management and when they are in its “sorry we’ll talk about it next time” many of my peers in other business functions have said the same and the region leaders have also made similar comments about where are we going and what’s next. Constantly it’s been getting pushed to me to communicate but I have nothing since information is low. Common now?

Hi Everyone.

I’ve said this before and this is reminder to myself as well. What we say, like, comment, and share on FB or other social platform can hurt our job search, promotions or even our employment status.

I pulled a candidate for screening and due to the complexity of the role, I shared the candidates resume with the HM prior to screening. The HM immediately found the candidate on FB and the first thing he saw was a PUBLIC post the candidate wrote going on full attack

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Severance question. I was laid off from my last company and luckily found something a week after being let go. My old company found out I got a new job from my LinkedIn and now wants to take my severance away "because I don't need it anymore and it's not a good look for the company paying someone severence when they are employed somewhere else." This is after the Severence Plan Agreement was signed but before it has been paid out. Is this a normal practice this companies and laying people off?

Does your company offer any sort of monthly reimbursements (phone reimbursement, Internet reimbursement, electricity reimbursement)?

My previous company offered $50 for phone and $25 for Internet as monthly non taxable reimbursements (added through payroll and receipts were not required). My current company is reimbursing up to $30 for electricity each month upon receipt and is thinking of adding it to payroll as a recurring taxable reimbursement.

I’m no tax expert: what is the right approach?
