Has anyone negotiated pay at a hospital or company that states they have different levels/tiers of fixed pay for so-and-so profession and can’t budge? I’ve worked in other fields prior to healthcare and have a hard time believing every (pick profession like PT) gets paid exactly (pick random number like $72,345). I’m skeptical because it sounds like “we have levels/tiers of fixed pay and can’t budge” is just an excuse to shut down negotiation right away. Can anyone share their experience?
I started a new job and at the same time entered a depressive episode coupled with an unhealthy and stressful new living situation. The end result has been a terrible performance review that I’m worried is going to follow me around in this job. I’ve already put in for emergency time off and I go to therapy, but I don’t know what else to do. I can’t seperate what’s mental health and what’s actually wrong/what I have control over anymore.

My spouse and I recently adopted an older shelter dog (Carlotta). Some of the other MDs at my hospital were putting together a "Dr. and Dog" social event, so I took Carlotta. The amount of jabs I got for bringing a shelter "mutt" (with typical elderly dog health ailments) instead of purchasing an expensive designer dog like everyone else was astounding. I'm sorry I didn't pay thousands for a purebred or socially-acceptable mutt. Is this level of snobbery typical in dog circles??

Is anyone familiar with non-profit HR? I sit on a non-profit board and lend my HR expertise to them. Our executive director is leaving and other board members want to pay a “leaving bonus” as a thank you for her hard work and say it’s common in non-profit realm. I have researched and see a lot of retention bonuses but unsure why we’d give someone a bonus on their way out and don’t want to set a precedent for doing this. Any insight is appreciated.
I’m an HR Mgr, and need help approaching my HRC about her demeanor at work. She lost her father last fall, and since returning to work, she’s become incredibly delicate. Often cries at work, staff are hesitant to approach her; it’s like walking on eggshells constantly with her. She does her job well, she takes directions well, but there is no real initiative with projects/tasks and I NEED a strong no.2 - I feel like I’m constantly coaching her and trying to support her, but I’m tired 😣
I found a new job (huzzah!) and turned in my 2 weeks notice yesterday. But I started feeling crummy last night and went to the doctor for a COVID test today. Lab results already came back positive. So now I feel super guilty about basically calling in sick to my last two weeks of work...should I try and push out my start date to help out current employer? Feel like current supervisor is going to throw a hissy fit.
Story Time: We had a team member quit this morning without notice. When the management team asked why he was being so unprofessional and not giving two weeks' notice. The team member’s response was, “would you give me two weeks' notice before firing me”? No one knew how to respond to this.

I am looking to make a career change to HR. I currently make 75K as a sales and development coach. I had a recent offer for a state government position in a talent acquisition role but I’d be taking a $25K pay cut. I am extremely over qualified for the position but it could possibly be a stepping stone and gives me the time to acquire SHRM certifications and possibly start taking classes to get my MBA. My question is those currently in an HR role, would this move make sense to you?
I had a company offer me a position under the original range and after I’ve turned down the role multiple times they have come back with an offer with a better title and $30k more. This huge shift put a bad taste in my mouth, but wasn’t sure if I was begin too critical because I wouldn’t operate that way as a recruiter.

Hi! Need advice…how do you end a temporary assignment early in an appropriate way. I am meeting with my leader about transitioning and I want to give my reasons for leaving in a constructive way, but I find it hard because I get emotional when talking about this.
For context: the reason I’m leaving the role is due to me experiencing racism and micro/macro/aggressions and the anxiety and racial trauma these situations have caused. Also, issues with not liking how my development is going.
So this week several people in the office started discussing their salaries and benefits, which is causing some major headaches with at least three people demanding that they be given raises or they’re quitting. My boss wants to punish people for sharing this information- which is illegal and meanwhile I’m standing in the middle trying to hold everything together…
We provide new hires a voucher to use to redeem company branded merchandise of their choice. They have 30-days to use it, otherwise it’s invalid and the funds return to the company. Do you believe the value of the voucher needs to be taxed like gift cards? My stance is no, because it’s a company purchase and just giving them the option of which merch item to choose and there’s no cash value.
