You need more experience with interns. It would set you the right level of expectations.
My last intern fell asleep at her desk and said she was “resting her eyes” so :shrug:
Internships require active mentoring. Talk to them about what their interests are and find tasks that they are excited about. Be available and help them past walls they hit in their solution. Set goals and milestones and setup recurring meetings to measure progress.
How long have you had them?
Interns often have NO FREAKING IDEA how the work-place works. You will need to hold their hand a lot.
Even fresh hires out of college struggle to keep up with all of the information you give them. (even though retaining it may be their full-time job, and only your part-time job)
makes me mad reading this as a former intern at spotify. i worked weekends and late nights voluntarily to add value to my team and up-skill myself. Also was told since day 1 full time conversion was not guaranteed so that added the extra push for me lol
No interview process is perfect. I've seen some people get hired who had no business getting the job.
