We have been guessing for 3 months now. Either it’s safe or it isn’t. Making the kids sit 6ft part isn’t going to solve the problem in my opinion. 😢

“Tone policing is defined as "a conversational tactic that dismisses the ideas being communicated when they are perceived to be delivered in an angry, frustrated, sad, fearful, or otherwise emotionally charged manner." Managers striving to create a workplace based on equity and inclusion must understand how tone policing silences members of marginalized groups and allows discrimination to persist.” https://www-businessinsider-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.businessinsider.com/how-to-identify-and-help-stop-tone-policing-in-workplace-2020-8?amp

I’m on the side of let things open up and start going back to normal. Anyone who is immunocompromised should have already been taking the necessary steps in staying safe and healthy.
I get my flu shot religiously and so do the kids. Other than that there’s not much to do.

Kids will be fine. They’re just going to be little bioterrorists taking out maw-maws and paw-paws
Kids will be fine. Please back up this claim or re-tract it. Some kids may be fine. Others are not fine. Some are not fine but the signs they are not fine will be delayed in their manifestation. Your comment is really just the worst.

Let kids be kids. Few have suffered from COVID. I’d say open up schools in the fall and revert to normal.

Firstly, why don’t you share a link instead so you can ensure we’re working with the same information?
Second, it’s not that there’s no immunity, it’s that we yet don’t know if there’s immunity and if there is, how long it’ll last. We’re hoping there is! It simply hasn’t been proven yet one way or the other. But I’d advise against letting people die for an unproven hope of immunity.
It isn’t safe. It’s not the kids so much I’m worried about it’s their grand parents and neighbors and the 30 million diabetes patients they’ll interact with over the coming months.

Then people at risk should self isolate, and quarantine, and not see kids or interact with them. Why are we taking all kids across the country out of school because the might impact more at risk groups? Those at risk groups should take heightened precautions but at some point kids need to get back to school. Preferably while they’re still kids.

Anyone over the age of 30 or so is at risk of death. Hospitalization statistics in NYC prove that the whole "it's only an old person disease" attitude is completely wrong.

The problem with saying that "at risk" people should isolate is that there's a massive amount of people with pre-existing conditions. According to this article by Kaiser, 54m people under 65 have pre-existing conditions.

By keeping schools closed for an extended period of time we’re doing a grave disservice to the next generation. Statistically, the overall risks are low, but to go to great lengths to protect the slightest risk from occurring is, from a cost-benefit standpoint, infeasible.
Pro
If it goes up the schools will be shut down but we can’t live in constant fear.
For all those advocating continued school closures, what is your alternative solution? I cannot continue to work full time and homeschool much longer. So are you volunteering to take on some of my workload so I can teach my kids? Are you willing to provide massive on the job training in 10 years when these kids join the work force and are seriously deficient in their education? Are you willing to homeschool doctor and nurses and wal mart employees kids when they go back to work?
If we are going to completely re-do society here, what is your suggestion? In the UK, an employee can voluntarily furlough for 12 weeks and the employee pays them 20% of their salary while the government pays the other 80% so they can take care of their kids. Here in America, we get $1200.

Ey4 and what's your authority for saying they won't be?

And some kids live with their grandparents due to circumstances. Maybe you do GB ww2, and send kids effectly to boarding schools in the country else you are putting the caretakers at risk
