We just paid off our 2015 Hyundai on 7 yr zero interest loan. Now thinking of upgrading to Audi SUV. Financially, we can afford to. Should we wait another year? Buy on cash, finance?

If the car is in good shape keep it. I’m still driving my 2008 Honda Accord. A monthly payment of $0 is great.

like

Lol. This is awkward. My 15 year old SUV would terrify you.

like

I would keep this car until it’s actually costing a ton to repair… and constantly. That’s just me though.

Friends don’t let friends own an Audi out of warranty.

If you wanna lease one, then fine. But don’t buy one.

like

How much is your monthly lease/finance on volvo? That’s one of my shortlist

Drive that thing into the ground until it breaks

like

Thank you all. For information, current financing cost on hyundai was $275/month LOL. The upgrade would be additional $500-$600. With recession and inflation (and my comp not necessarily increasing as much) I agree with being a little patient. Our car is in very decent shape, only 45K km in 7 years !

like

I've 2015 Nissan Rogue and at 52k miles. I was tempted to buy Tesla few months back, and now I'm so glad that I curbed my temptation. I decided to drive this car atleast until it's 10yr old..

Having $0 monthly payment is great. My other car will be paid off in Nov this year and with that money, I'll have rental property monthly payment. Rental income/Property appreciation is pretty awesome compared to 2 auto loans..

like

Why in the world would you want to buy an audi? You should think of a tesla or polestar as your next car. Rates are going higher now, keep that hyundai and save your money.

like

Wow I used to think merc and bmw more expensive than Audi

like

I wouldn't waste money on cars right now. They will probably be much cheaper next year or when a recession really hits.

Chip shortages are projected to keep inventory low for 12 to 18 months. It may take another 6 to 12 months for demand to slow due to the backup. It might be 2+ years before we see under MSRP deals. And with manufacturers like Ford shifting to the online-only MSRP-only model for their electric models, I wouldn’t be surprised if under MSRP deals go away completely before the supply normalizes.

Keep it and save some cash in the meantime. Finance if you can get a low rate / think your money can do better in the market. You can always pay it off early.

I’m still driving my 2011 Hyundai. It’s done 265,000km and still going strong.

It will need a new clutch soon - but that’s just wear and tear. I love having no car payment.

like

I’m still driving my 2005 Lexus ES300, has 80k miles. She is in great shape and only needs service check ups once a year because of how I keep it in great condition. I was very tempted to upgrade to a new car, but realized by baby has held me down for all these years. I only pay $95 in car insurance every month and do not have a car note as she’s been paid off since forever ago. I plan on waiting it out to upgrade and will save my money in this tanking economy.

2005 RX here!! Still love it to pieces.

If you can find one at sticker price, go ahead now. I see Audi offering 3.5%. If you can get that I would finance. But don’t finance past 5 years. Some cars just aren’t available now.

Not sure how many miles you got on your car but I got huge trade in amount from caravana you can even sell to them. Not sure if you will have that next year, but who knows. You should go check what you can get for the vehicle. Also if you get the etron, you can get 7500 fed tax credit as well

like

We also did this. Had an inflated trade in amount on our 2016 Audi, and as others mentioned, servicing was starting to become more frequent as car got older. We went with the Volvo Recharge and got the tax credit back too.

like

Nothing wrong with treating yourself but as you mentioned it may be best to sit tight a little until the market and economy are clearer

like

Wait for another year. Car price will come down.

like

Keep that paid-for car! If you really want to be smart, put the “payment” into savings or pay down debt. I once worked with a man who put his “payments” into savings once his cars were paid off, then paid cash for his next cars.

A long time ago I started a car account and deposit $100 a month in it. Covers service and new tires. I have a 2012 Lexus with 71k miles.

like

Do the research on the best time to buy. If it's working fine, I'd be taking the car payment and socking away for a deposit on the next one.

I invested in a mutual fund 2 yrs ago (lump sum) and every Dec they pay out distributions and I get a 1099 for the gains. The fund has essentially lost all gains from the past 1.5 yrs. If I decide to sell it (assume same price as I bought it) do I get some kind of reprieve since I technically never realized those gains? Any help is appreciated.
