We lived in a smallish condo when our oldest were toddlers. You can get by if you have some good places to go to - we used to hit the children’s museum and some indoor play places. We also went to the aquarium or malls to walk around and set up play areas in diff rooms of our house to make moving from room to room feel like a fresh set of toys and new experience (like we had a play kitchen in their room, a train set in the living room, etc.). We also signed up for some park district classes that our city offered super affordably - Playgroups or music classes, etc. holidays are a great time to ask grandparents to gift museum memberships or classes etc so your small living space doesn’t end up overrun with more toys....

One philosophy is no bad weather, only bad clothes, so you could get them bundled up and outside for a while each day unless it is actually dangerous. It took a while to instill, but our toddler also now is reasonably good about putting away one set of toys before getting out another. We have a shelf with storage bins organized by theme, like construction (legos/blocks), imaginative play (figurines/vehicles), gross motor (balls), fine motor (crafts), puzzles, etc. and we can confine most of the playing to living room + bedroom. Finally, is there an indoor play area or museum that you can get a membership to? In my city the science museum has a “children’s museum” which is a large indoor play area, and the local Gymboree has “open play” hours most days that are included in the cost of a class.

How would one calculate child support when there is an adoption stipend being received? I have an attorney arguing it should be included as income for calculating support and I have another attorney on the other side saying it should be excluded entirely as it’s a benefit for the children. The stipend is a monthly payment received as a result of an adoption that occurred when the parties were still together. I can’t find relevant case law or statutes on point. This is a KY issue.

My son is entering Kindergarten and his (great but hamstrung) public school can only offer 60-85 minutes per day for remote learning, 3 days per MONTH in-school. Just not feasible for a working mom in this industry. So I met some parents, we hired a private teacher, and I’m rolling with a 4-family homeschool pod. I’m keeping my kid in public school, hoping the curriculums can align and not go crazy. Love and strength to all moms and dads and partners out there. It’s tough - but so are we!

Hi ladies. I need some advice. I'm currently out on maternity leave, to return in about a month. I was just informed my male counterpart in my department will be getting a promotion by our new boss. This is really a slap in the face considering I've been trying to fight for equal pay since last year when I found out another (former) male counterpart of mine was making 40k more than me. What would you do in my situation? Demand to know why I wasn't considered? Leave?

Planning a bridal shower / bachelorette party weekend for my elder sister (she’s 28). She wants to have it in NYC, which is where she and I live. I’m thinking bridal shower at Union Square Cafe or some other fancy restaurant Saturday morning, bachelorette party Saturday night (but no idea where), and then casual goodbye brunch at my parent’s place on Sunday AM. Her friends would fly in Friday or Saturday morning. Have never done this so need all the advice / suggestions! Thank you!

Having my 1st baby and trying to figure out invites for the baby shower and could use input. My SIL /MIL won’t host a family shower for me. My mom thinks it’s tacky for her to host anything. My friend is hosting a shower & told me to invite anyone I want. I’d like to invite family on both sides. I don’t want my friend to be stuck with the bill, so my hubby said he’d pay for it; my mom freaked out and said it’s like I’m hosting one for myself. She wants to not invite any family now. Thoughts?

I got an email last night from a 7th-grade parent because her son said I mentioned the words "male privilege" in class, and she is very concerned about how that is related to ELA (she said "reading"), and she is concerned about this being taught in public schools. To be clear, I didn't do a lesson on this subject but we did discuss rights versus privileges. I've had multiple parents contact the school/get upset with me because of things like his. It's exhausting... Thoughts?

I’m pregnant with my first. About midway through first trimester. I’m unbelievably sick. I haven’t been able to function since week five. I barely eat. Water and a few popsicles a day. If I’m lucky a few pieces of watermelon. I’m perpetually sick, physically unable work, and struggling to care for myself. It was suggested I take short-term disability for the next six weeks to see if this gets better. Anyone done this and know how it works?

Does anyone know how many vacation days each level (e.g, SA, C, SC..) has at CV?

Hear me out. We’re living in the residual days of advertising power. Back in the day, if you worked in advertising, you very much shaped culture. Advertising creatives shared the airwaves with only the likes of Hollywood and national news. There were only so many pipes into culture and advertising was a big one. But today, the pipes are democratized. Random teens on TikTok are having more impact on culture than Mad Ave. And yet, so much ego and self importance remains.
