We are restricted to two liquors with mixers by the venue. They just dont restrict the types or amounts of wine and beer.
Ah that’s too bad. Definitely provide a wide variety of wine then. Also the region matters. Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand or Chile can be very good and very affordable. Spain and Australia have a lot of great affordable reds. Prosecco (Italy) is a crowd-pleaser. Cheap French rosé is still usually very good. Look outside of the mass market brands everyone knows. Total Wine does have a great selection of these and with the discounts you can get great under $10 a bottle wine.
Costco (if you live in a state where Costco sells liquor)
You can get very cheap wine and liquor at Trader Joe’s and Costco and Total Wine/BevMo. We shopped around for the best prices. Would recommend just having some of everything (Chardonnay, rose, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet, Pinot noir, sparkling wine, etc.) even if just buying a couple $3 bottles of some types. Why not also have a bottle of tequila and gin and rum available? Some people only drink 1 thing and will be disappointed if not an option. Personally I don’t like cupcake wine because it’s too sweet for me. Make sure you have something for the dry wine drinkers 😊 and don’t forget mixers! Also if you get some lesser known brands of wine people won’t necessarily know you went with cheap options!
I used Total Wine and they will do a tasting with a price point you’re comfortable with and give recommendations. They gave a decent case discount and also you can return unopened bottles / cases. As someone who’s attended a ton of weddings, I think it’s tacky to cheap out on the alcohol. You can get reasonably priced good beer and wine.
A few of Trade joes box wine are very drinkable
