Weighing getting a portable window A/C unit (rental unit), but heard that heat pumps are more eco-friendly. Anyone have experience making that decision? I worry that the heat pump won’t be as effective.

Mini-splits are awesome, they heat and cool but are very expensive and a bit of an eye sore. The summers are getting hotter here to the point of needing AC.

If it's a rental, then a landlord would need to install the heat pump, as it requires going thru walls and adding wiring, etc. So window unit is probably best bet if renting. For homeowners, highly recommend a heat pump. Expensive to install, but super efficient and does both heat and AC, and adds value to the home.

like

A heat pump is simply an AC with a reversing valve that allows the refrigerant to be used to both heat and cool a given space.

Heat pumps are more eco friendly when you're replacing a gas based heating system with this more efficient refrigerant based heating system. If you only care about cooling, there are AC units with higher efficiencies than the cooling efficiency of many heat pumps.

Window AC units are fine, I have one in my room. The new ones are even pretty affordable and pretty energy efficient. We have one in the living room too that's never given any lack of heat.

I just got a furnace replaced and heat pump installed, happy to recommend who I used

like

Don't waste money on a window AC, they are inefficient, and if it breaks no one wants to work on them. A mini-split is an efficient choice as you can control the temperature for each room and they don't use as much energy. But a heat pump is another great option if you hoping to stay comfortable and not spend a ton o your energy bill each month

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
