I work in a midsize city while most of my former classmates are in NY or DC, and I’ve been told smaller markets are slightly less crazy when it comes to billable hours. You’re still paid decently (at least in my city) and the cost of living is more reasonable, which mattered a lot to me considering the mountain of loans I have to pay back.
The downside of a smaller market of course is fewer opportunities and the city life is less exciting. I have zero knowledge of Raleigh’s market though. I think in general it depends on what type of practice you want to do and the environment you want to work/live in.
Just moved to Raleigh so I’m not too familiar with the market. Raleigh is great if you’re okay with not having the big city life. Every thing is so much cheaper and there is still a ton to do!
As for night life, you can go to the Glenwood south area if you want your pick of a ton of different night clubs. Or if you’re looking for something classier there are a bunch of cool bars/speakeasy type places in the heart of downtown!
