I got laid off. Unfortunately I’m outside USA on H1 visa expiring 2024. Can I still enter USA with valid visa but unemployed? Do they check if my employment is current or only check visa to let me in? Please help as I’m with a baby.

How do you not take a layoff due to RIF (involuntary reduction) personally? I was told it is not personal. All full time positions except 1 were let go. Contractors on the team still exist and so does the team. I can’t help but wonder whether performance was a factor and it makes me really sad even after a few months! Any examples of how laying off full time employees over contractors helps with cost cutting? Thanks!

Well.. I brought up compensation, being a women and feeling bias since I'm a Latina... and two weeks after fired. After I explicitly said I was nervous about even bringing it up in fear of retaliation. My review after I brought it up was riddled with "issues" that were never even brought up as being an issue. Things that make you go hmm.

Billable hrs: Generally accepted. We all know the downsides.

Pay4performance: Big upside potential, tons of risks.

Project pricing: Cloak for billable hours. You have to estimate project cost with something.

Everyone else on my team said I did great work while she always brought me down. If you gaslight your direct reports with vague feedback and hustle culture energy, you should probably look inward and question why you’re a miserable human.
